Avoiding the politics - what are people thinking today with the market drop.

The second the bail out was failed I knew something terrible was about to happen. Things didn't look that bad around 2:30 when everything made small gains after the big drop. Right now we are freefalling.

I am really concerned. Anyone making big moves with financials now? Personally I am watching and waiting.

A buddy of mine sent me this email earlier today. Relates to the bailout, I love the idea. I know RED would make a huge spike in sales if this were to happen, LOL! :)

====================================================

I don't know who came up with this, but it works for me...

I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.

Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We
Deserve It Dividend.

To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bona-fide
U.S. Citizens 18+.

Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and
child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..;

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billion that equals
$425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It
Dividend.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free.

So let's assume a tax rate of 30%.

Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.

That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.

A husband and wife have $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?

Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved.

Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads

Put away money for college - it'll be there

Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs.

Buy a new car - create jobs

Invest in the market - capital drives growth

Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves

Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean - or else

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who

lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is
cutting back. And of course for those serving in our Armed Forces.

If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of
trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( 'vote buy' ) economic incentive that is
being proposed by one of our candidates for President.

If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult
U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG - liquidate it.

Sell off its parts.

Let American General go back to being American General.

Sell off the real estate.

Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.

Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.

Sure it's a crazy idea that can 'never work.'

But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!

How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion We
Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington
DC.

And remember, The Family plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because

$25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

Ahhh...I feel so much better getting that off my chest.

This would eliminate the need for the additional $700 BILLION, or we
could just use the same philosophy for that and make all of us instant
millionaires!

I like Jay's idea.

But here's my plan:

Haha,

If only. But I am starting to feel a little better. DOW gained about 100 points in the past 5 minutes. I have a good deal of windows open tracking the market. Been making calls all day. But no idea how the global market will react. But at least oil is down.

Someone needs to go back to school and retake their math class.

Well, it totally stinks, whatever.

Some of us aren't Spring chickens anymore and had our retirements we worked or lives invested...

Now what?

I, for one, feel like climbing a tower with a rifle...

Sorry to rain on everyone's parade but if you do the math it only comes out to $425 for each person. Which is VERY different from $425,000.

85,000,000,000 divided by 200,000,000 = $425

Good thing that guy isn't in charge of the bailout.

Edit: D'oh! mcgeedigital beat me to it.

First, your math is wrong.

Second, with the current bail-out plan the government will assume ownership of various assets that will likely regain their value over time or they will help a more stable company aquire a failing company and their assets. The tought is that by doing this the government and the more stable companies can weather the short term financial issues bad debts create. When the markets stabilize then the government can sell off the assets it aquired thus recouping the $700 billion dollar loan.

Giving money to an average citizen does not have any of that type of planning. What's to stop someone from spending all their money on things that will only put them further in debt. Simply giving money away to people without the government aquiring anything in return defeats the whole purpose of the bailout.

My family pulled out 1st QTR last year.

My funds have taken a huge hit the past few weeks. It's terrible for everyone. And the after-market trading killed the DOW even more, at close we were around 10,563 and now we are at 10,365.45. NASDAQ lost nearly 200 points. S&P is down 106.59. When we used to invest, per each 10 points on the S&P we would make or lose 10,000. Needless to say we would have lost a good deal of money.

The worst part is the Asian markets are opening soon and they have to react yet. And the new Quarter starts in two days.

It's just a terrible situation in all. I have no idea what can possibly be done now. Best to everyone involved in the market right now. Best bet is to hold your ground and push through.

And does anyone know if Wachovia is going to disappear entirely? Their shares are at .01 lost any value they had today after the fail in the bailout.

You won't believe where that $700-billion bailout figure came from

"It's not based on any particular data point," a Treasury spokeswoman told Forbes.com Tuesday. "We just wanted to choose a really large number."

You in Germany are down too.

I don´t gamble with stocks and thelike so I did not direct take flak.

Since 2000 I told everyone and his kid brother to buy real gold and store it under the bed. Works great for me since then.
