FEATURE: MARIANNE - a Swedish psychological horror film, shot on 7D

After spending the entire weekend adding temp music to the film, I've finally burnt and watched it again.

Now I can't wait until we record the real score, and add the real sound mix! =D

We're going through some major re-editing at the moment. Going from 115 minutes to 100.
Fixing pacing and length, tightening dialogue and re-doing some scenes from scratch to bring out a better performance.
Also adding a few new quick shots.

This pushes back the deadline by about a month since it affects music and sound editing but in the end it's probably for the best.

You've got PETER STORMARE!! And nobody noticed? Great actor! Seems like this project is doing well. How did you get him?

Best wishes to Sweden :)

Thanks!

Yeah he's awesome. Really cool guy. Considdering the directors he usually works with it's great he does things like this too.

I think it's because actors/actresses (who are more or less known) know that it's not easy to get from "the guy/girl serving at the mcdonalds/burger king/wendy's...." to "the big celebrity"

So I think that's why they also help with the "less-payed" stuff to encourage "newbies" and (in there eyes) talented directors or filmmakers.

I even think when he's not acting he's a calm, easy going guy ?

The reason he did this was a combination of different things.

I knew he was shooting a big budget Swedish movie further up north around that time, so I contacted his agent and said we're a really small production so we can afford to be 100% flexible when it comes to shooting schedule. We only needed him for one day, so we could do it anytime at all basically. That's the advantage of doing microbudget.

Another reason is that MARIANNE takes place up north, it's shot here, and the location is very much a part of the story. The story deals with old Swedish folklore in a way that I'm not sure has been done before (well maybe Mikael Håfström's Strandvaskaren, but that was different). Peter is also from the north and he's interested in folklore too.
We're trying to set up a film community here and get bigger productions going here and he wants to support that.
The winter scenes with George Clooney in THE AMERICAN were shot in this town last year, and also the Norwegian film HJEM TIL JUL, so we're building something here together with the Mid Nordic Film Commission and Filmpool Jämtland.
I recently moved up and stationed my production company here, and in March we're shooting another feature, also on 7D.

So apart from us being flexible, it was also personal for him I guess.
But it was still really cool of him to do it. We had a great time.

The guy has worked with Ingmar Bergman, Terry Gilliam, the Coen brothers (on a number of occasions), Steven Spielberg, Lasse Hallström, Jonas Åkerlund and Michael Bay to name a few. So yeah I'm thrilled to have him onboard.

Thanks for the detailed reply! That is the information I was looking for. Really appreciated.

Nice job getting Peter Stormare. He's an excellent actor. And congratulations on everything thus far.

Good luck with the rest of it.

I'm putting together a teaser for the film to get the attention of bloggers and blog readers. Something I can have on the film's website and send in the press kit together with screenshots, plot description, cast & crew info and general information about the production.

Unfortunately I don't have much time to make this trailer.
Right now, I've exported a very rough version of it to Vimeo as a private, password protected video.

I will of course add a lot of text to it. Brief cast/crew in the beginning, and a screen with more detailed info at the end with cast/crew. I'll also improve the look of the text and probably put a link in the beginning as well or possibly during the whole thing. The image quality will be a lot better than it is at the moment (right now the colors are awful, probably because of the compression).

If anyone would like to take a look and give me some thoughts on the footage I've chosen, the order they're put in and the overall structure of the teaser that would help A LOT.

That would really help me finish this teaser.

EDIT: Link removed.

Both the choice of music and shots makes this look more like a drama than a horror film.
It is more of a drama than a horror. It's technically a psychological horror, but the main story arc is the father-daughter conflict. Him being haunted supports that.

The genre is kind of American Beauty meets Repulsion, inspired by movies like Dark Water and Don't Look Now.

So it's not The Grudge or anything.
