mamiya lens adapter

I only find Mamiya to Canon EOS adapters on ebay.
It's probably not a good idea to use Medium Format lenses on a GH1 anyway.
MF lenses aren't able to resolve that may line pairs / mm compared to good 35mm glass. Don't confuse the resolution you would get on MF film with what you would get on the comparatively tiny m43 chip. It would be better to use 35mm glass with high center resolution or better yet, lenses which are designed for m43 chips.

well i wanted to use them because they are cheaper than 35mm lenses and are really good glass. at my work we just got a 7D and we bought a bunch of mamiya lenses and they work better than the EOS lenses! i found 1 mamiya to micro 4/3 adapter but it is a couple hundred dollars which i can't justify right now. thanks for your help.

2 stage solution. Mamiya 645 - Eos, Eos - M4/3

I think the MF lenses should still resolve more than enough info for the m4/3 sensor, we're nowhere near film resolution here.

Mamiya glass is indeed excellent and are way underpriced, I am astonished at how little it sells for these days - I remember, jeez, 15 years ago, what a 645 setup cost...and now you can get these lenses for a couple hundred bucks.

thanks thisisapocalypse. i've never used adapters before but would multiple adapters compromise my image quality? don't you want your lens closer to the sensor? i want to use the mamiya lenses but dont want to compromise picture quality.

You should be fine with multiple adapters, considering that neither the Mamiya to Eos, Eos to m4/3 adapters use optical elements in them.

As far as "closer" to the sensor - keep in mind that lenses are designed for a specific registration distance to the film plane, or in this case, a digital sensor.

An eos to m4/3 adapter will set eos lenses to the right registration distance for use on the GH1, so you now basically have an m4/3 camera with an eos mount that will place eos lenses at the right distance.

Now, you put on the Mamiya to Eos adapter, and this will place the Mamiya lens at the right distance for registration on an eos mount camera (which you now have).

It should be in just the right spot, and I see no reason that image quality would suffer. It's sort of like adding up the registration distances, i.e.

Let's say that the Mamiya registration distance is 20 mm, and the eos registration is 15mm. The eos adapter will give you the 15mm you need for eos lenses to work, and then the mamiya to eos adapter will give you the 5mm additional you need for mamiya lenses to work on an eos, so when combined, it adds up to the right total registration distance.

This thread is ancient but any updates? Now I'm looking for 645 adapters almost a year later and wondering if it's still the same case.

Are there 645 -- > M4/3 adapters available yet? If so what's the cheapest one?

Thanks!
