Make my af101 look like.....VIDEO!!!!

Yes, that probably has a few people gasping  (after all most people buy an af100 to get away from the look), but I actually want to emulate a news style ENG look, for example if I am shooting a news style package, or filming a media training session. I want the af101 to look as news-y as possible.

Having read Barry Greens book recently it seems that 720 50p is a good setting for me as all my footage ends up online or DVD.

Does anyone have any scene file settings they could recommend? In particular, detail settings....

Thanks,

Simon

The faster frame rate is a good call, as would be to choose to *gasp* keep everything in focus...lol, making it look like a ENG cams smaller chip

Since broadcast footage is usually interlaced, and at a faster framer rate, I would think 1080 60i would look most like video. Then you could use Barry's "Sharp" scene file to get more detail in the image as video would have. That, combined with the deeper depth of field from shooting at a smaller aperture, should do it.

So what about scene file settings for an ENG Look? Any suggestions?

In particular, detail levels?

Also, Barry mentions when shooting for web, to use progressive mode rather than interlaced

720p50/60 or 1080i50/60
generally higher detail and chroma levels
BPRESS, HD NORM
ISO up, stop down (~f8 is a good working range)

I would only shoot interlaced if the final master needs to be interlaced. Otherwise, if its just web video/DVD and you want it to look ENG, I'd shoot 720p50 (PAL land) or 1080p30 (NTSC land).

When you shoot progressive you immediately lose the video look that the OP is after.

Whatever..I suggest the OP now does some tests to dial in his look.

Actually, I would do 720p60 instead 1080p30. I've shot plenty of sports in 720p60, and it very much has the "video" look. More so than 30p would.

It doesn't care what goes in, but YouTube/Vimeo/ect. will turn it into 30fps.
The OP wasn't spacific on delivery to what only web/DVD.

I shoot in all flavors and convert it to whatever it needs to go to, so I don't see why it matters. Just shoot 29.97 or 59.97 60i, 60p and you get that broadcast news look. Trust me. I work at a local TV station. :Drogar-Shock(DBG):
