Make a music video, but how?

One tip is you can never have enough angles, especially in a rock clip. I finished one recently on a 2 camera shoot, kept cycling A & B rigs on different angles and setups. When I felt I had enough with the B Camera, I shoulder mounted it and in each take I would hold an angle for half of the take and move to another spot for the other half, then eventually I just kept moving with it picking up whatever I could to add a bit of variety. All the while the A rig was still picking up the key shots.

Even with all that, I think we had 3hrs footage all up for a 4min 30sec song and I was struggling a bit to find more alternative angles and good clips to cut in.
In the end I think it's a pretty good clip and doesn't look boring, nice little narrative theme and some nice VFX. Just shoot as much as you can, time goes fast.

I watched a few BTS videos and I heard beeping before the song started to play.
What is the point of that? Just to sync in post easier?

And when do you add those beeps? Only once in the very beginning of the song?

Yes / Yes.

Its IS so that you can sync in post, and you only need one marker for that clip.

There's (for me anyway) a far more important reason for a countoff at song start - it's the only way the performer or band can synch their performance and come in on the first beat. Pretty necessary if the first not of the song will be performed.

Probably best if you just SEE the process and ask the questions of a music video director, on set. My producing partner does a lot of music videos in Toronto (mostly rap) and if you're interested, you could come out and PA for us and ask him some questions.

Good luck shooting this summer,

Kegan
