Magic latern firmware for 5D - 74 MBps h.264 Tests & 2.0.8 Beta Firmware

I haven't tried it yet but tonight I sure will. Very interesting for sure. Would be great to see some footage if anybody has any yet.

Wow this is very good news,i dont own 5D but i would test is on 550D if they release it for this cam.

It is known what this extra data actually effects? Color, resolution, something else? Cool stuff for sure...

I installed this and set it to the highest rate (-16). I shot some handheld stuff at a fairly deep F-stop, and when i check the file in MediaInfo, the bit rate tops out at 56mbps, not 76 as listed. Not sure why...

can sameone explain how to do this?
i have installed the new magic lantern but i don't know how to set bitrate.
do you have installed in cf card also the file "autoexec.bin"?
thanks

This is the same type of hack as gh1 has ,more data recorded into video files to gain more detail so it could bring a lot but only pictures could tell.

first test with sandisk III and after recording now card is died!when i insert in camera nothing happen.
black screen.

How fast is your CF card?

I think if you shot in broad daylight with slightly over exposed and f10 with a fair amount on detail in the shot the card won't be able to keep up. I tried two different UDMA 60mb cards ( Lexar and Sandisks ) which in darker situations will be far below 56mbs even at -16. Outside today in bright conditions I was getting in the 70's but also overflowing the buffer. The thing is I wasn't really able to see any noticeable difference... other then in file sizes err well unless I really turned the setting to below -8. Maybe in some ways you might be able to run a lower setting and get considerably longer take times. Maye twice as long ( 20- min takes ) with reasonable quality.

One of the compression issues that is noticeable at times when a very detailed scene is being shot is the pulsing in the background even on a locked off shot. I haven't tested this but it may have some improvement with a higher fixed rate. Still the aliasing bothers me more when I peep this footage so its more disappointing to look this close :crybaby:

any test foootage yet peeps? curious to see how much of a huge difference dis makes.

The encoder has been set to a variable bit-rate rather than a constant bit-rate which explains the difference in the data rate.

I've uploaded a file straight out of the 5D @ 68Mb/s- http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U23STMNG
