General Magic Lantern may be adding clean, uncompressed HDMI to most Canon DSLRs!

I don't know if there's much to be gained there. Doesn't the camera output only 8-bit video? I feel like the increase in IQ doesn't justify adding a recorder and using up gobs of hard drive space. And it still doesn't fix the problems of moire/aliasing or rolling shutter. AND you have to deal with pulling progressive frames out of an interlaced signal.

It's like those crazy bitrate GH2 hacks - there's a point of diminishing returns and that point is probably very close to what the stock camera settings already provide.

A: There isn't much about the subject, because it is all conjecture at this point.

B: The codec used in Canon DLSR's is so awful, that a clean hdmi out would be an improvement. Interlaced 8bit or not. (also, the C300 is 8bit)

C: Next gen dslr's don't look to be adding a whole lot. So, a ML t2i with clean hdmi out could still be worth while.

100% agree. And let me add that not only do you bypass the codec, you get 4:2:2.

In addition, if they manage to get 3x zoom, and even more control over the sensor capture window, then that would also yield a way to combat aliasing and moire. But yes, rolling shutter is here to stay.

It's all conjecture yes, but ML has gone further and faster than I think any of us expected. Poking DIGIC registers has already allowed features which we thought were almost impossible, so I think genuine excitement is warranted.

If these cameras reach their true potential through ML, Canon has a real headache, because many people just won't need to upgrade.

I hope this becomes real for one thing: live streaming. Three Canon DSLRs with three Terradek Cube and two GoPro with Wifi bacpac networked to Wirecast and you get a portable broadcasting studio suitable for almost any situation.

Just noticed your Screen Names. Are you both friends or working together? or are you the same person? :)

:D

You got me. I created an alternate persona to praise my own posts. I didn't think of making the name more different. I guess that would have made it less obvious.

Just to be clear for future reference- James0b57 and Jamesd256 are NOT the same person, and posting from completely different IP addresses. This was a joke.
