T2i Magic Lantern for 550D in progress!

Resolution on LCD is 720x480 and SD is 576X480. how's the focus, then ?

I was under the impression that it was 640 x 480 for NTSC SD, not 576. Yes, I suppose it is a bit less than the native 720 on camera, but at the size of the camera display I don't think the extra 80 pixels make a noticeable difference. Either way you need magic zoom to get any kind of decent focus IMO.

The bigger problem, however, is that the darned thing assumes a 4:3 aspect ratio, which gives you a letterboxed view (even with a 16:9 monitor), making the effective resolution even smaller!

But again, that's why magic zoom is necessary, and I stand behind that when using the internal display as well (it doesn't matter how many pixels you have when the whole thing is so small to begin with!).

picture styles

hi i cannot get custom picture styles to work in movie mode, i just get 3 empty standard modes in the user profiles. in still mode all is fine. when i switch to movie mode i cannot access the custom styles. hope this makes sense.

dont no if any one else has had this happen but in june 7th build i encountered some mad glitching like massive green blocks over clips and really statiky footage after about 100 clips

Alex,
I don't know if you already have a thread, but is there anyway you can start a thread where you just put the updates and version features??? I'll get busy working on a project for a few weeks and then have to sift forever through comments trying to figure out what's going on with the latest build, lol. RED did something pretty cool, by allowing you to just jump to what the RED staff is saying on REDUSER.

I know this thread has turned into a sort of a Trouble Shooting thread for builds and suggestions, which I think is great. But if there could be another thread that keeps it simple and is only ML releases with notes and features, without other comments, then that would be a HUGE help. Plus if it could by "pinned" to stay at the top it wouldn't have to sift through the threads either. If something like that already exist then please let me know.

I know this is not your Forum, but I'm sure one of the moderators or Barry would be down with that...I hope, lol. And great job on the ML, I've only been using it for a few months, but it really turned my camera into something amazing!

That is cool, but I'm pretty sure it requires some custom coding on the back end of a forum to implement. We aren't set up for that kind of thing, sadly.

I did create a sticky post about ML, we could use that if a1ex or anyone else wants to post there.

@Cowboy - Thanks, but I guess it must be me, but I get lost easily on the wiki. I find it hard to find exactly what I'm looking for at times.

@Gilden - That would be cool. I saw the one you started which is cool. I guess I'm more hoping for a thread that is just the updates and release notes, without comments. This way its easy to see what version is most current, features, and any notes from Alex. Then the thread you created or this one can be used to hash out things.

This thread has gotten so huge that its becoming hard to find where you left off, which is a good thing because ML kicks ass!

Release notes are posted only on the mailing list for now; if anyone wants to compile a changelog from them, this would be nice.

Here's the latest update, for 550D, 60D and 600D: http://bit.ly/paVAdh

Hi Alex, I was very curious about the new magic lantern build and gave it quick try.

My first impressions:
+ starting and config saving is really really quick now
+ love that flash toggles false colours again
+ power saving features are really great (although sometimes they are not seem to trigger)
+ of course the included help is ... well, helpful :-)
+ in the few minutes of testing I could not crash the camera. Neither shooting/recording immediately after startup nor with live view.

- nothing yet :-)

Well done Alex and all contributors to ML!

Best regards from Germany,
Dorian

So, can we call this a "beta" now for the 60D or is it still in the "alpha" stages? I'm really eager to try but I've never played with ML before and I don't want to brick my brand new 60D.

Hi, I experienced that with the actual build the intervalometer does not start if I set it on and leave the menu. Instead I have to half press the shutter to get out of menu and start it. Is it a bug or a feature, because its not in the manual?

Sounds like a bug; I always close the menu by half-pressing the shutter, so I didn't notice it.

I'll try on my camera tonight.

Edit: confirmed; it's caused by ML menu being on top of Canon menu (and intervalometer is stopped by pressing MENU or PLAY). I wonder why nobody noticed this so far, since this change was done a long time ago.

The toggle is a little awkward on the T2i having to press the two buttons, but it does work and is certainly faster than the Canon methods. Thanks
