T2i Magic Lantern for 550D in progress!

So there is now "push button WB"? With the unmodded camera, to register custom WB you need to shoot a suitable still image and then reference that for the custom WB values. Not elegant compared to the usual camcorder method. But this mod allows you to lock custom WB through the lens?

Kelvin meter is there (sort of). Point the camera at something white or gray, then press Q button on the kelvin entry in ML menu. It will auto-adjust the kelvin value.

oooohhh, nice one!!

WhiteBal Kelvin white balance. Range: 1700 ... 10000.In LiveView, press the Q button on this entry to set the WB temperature using the center color as reference gray. The measurement area is 200x200 pixels, centered.

note to self: RTFM!!

Alex, thank you! Setting WB is one of the most annoying things on these cameras. The ability to push button WB setting is incredible. Thanks for all the work you guys are doing!

Yes!!! for me too, this is one of the best settings. But i would like to ask if is possible to have this function and the automatic iso asigned to a phisycal button in the camera instead of opening the GUI Menues?

Thanks A1ex!!

I don't think the push button white balance adjusts for green magenta under flourescents though does it? That would be very very very nice.

It does not adjust the green balance. Experimental code is in the source tree, but commented out, since my math formulas for color balance are not very good. If anyone knows this subject well (i.e. how to extract green/magenta info from yuv), help is welcome.

You're still totally our hero Alex. Happy New Year!

Just installed for the first time ( and just donated) and all I can say is WOW!. No problems at all so far and so many more features than I expected.
Incredibly useful.

I understand that focus assist is also on the way and that would just be the icing on the cake. I rely on the red peaking on my EX-1 and if that existed for the Canon it would be a very very big deal. make sure its adjustable though as too much peaking makes it useless.

Thanks Thanks Thanks Alex. Very impressive.

BTW - I haven't played with the contrast adjustment much yet and don't see much on the user manual about it.
Will that lower contrast beyond what's now available in the Canon menus already and is it similar to some of the flatter "cine gamma" settings people are using on the 5D?
Also does it change the other user values on saturation or softness?

Lenny

Contrast is just the same contrast from picture styles, with same range (-4...4). I don't know what happens if I'd set it to -5. It shouldn't change other settings, unless there are bugs in the code :)

I use it often (outdoors -4, indoors a bit higher), that's why I've put it in the menu.

I lost track of where we were up to with headphone monitoring (as I intend to feed a hot feed to the mic jack with AGC off).
This feature is very important to me, but I recall reading somewhere that so far all attempts to enable live monitoring bork the USB jack.

I tried to search around for updates on this issue, but seem to have lost sight of it. Anyone know anything on that front?

I get around this by running a Zoom h4n in between my input device and the camera. I run a splitter out of the headphone/Line out jack from the Zoom, one of them going to my headphones, one to the camera's line in. This also gives you the ability to have more control over your levels as well as recording separate audio files.

+1

Still doesn't guarantee the audio line to the DSLR is trouble free, only that the H4N is fine. Having heard plenty of radios and hums over mini cables I would never count on it.

Well in the event of a bum cable (which should be tested before going out to shoot anything important anyway), you've still got clean sound from the h4n. Seems like an acceptable substitute to me.

Now, is it just me or is my camera suddenly capable of shooting in 100 ISO even without ML?
I am 99% sure there was NO WAY to shoot in 100 ISO when in manual mode, 200 was always the minimum. It did go back to 100 in automatic exposure, but never in manual.

Am i going crazy or did it indeed change?

EDIT: Ah, it was Highlight Tone Priority. Solved. Been going nuts over the lack of 100 use.

now in the new update, when Global draw is off the screen is completely clean, also the box that was always there whith DISP, someone can test if now you get a clean output for hdmi, and can be record without going through the camera's codec.

on the 550D, the hdmi output is 480p only: you're much better off sticking to the camera's codec

No, is 480 if you record on camera, but if you use the HDMI output cleaned and record it on an external device or computer, not recorded on camera, you have 1080 and the codec you want

I've actually wondered about using this with a firestore myself as well. Would solve 12-minute clip length issues and codec preferences. I suppose all the ML firmware would need to do is turn off the screen icons so clean video only passes thru, and keep the camera from shutting off due to inactivity, right?

Would love to see a comparison of side-by-side of video that is captured from the viewer, and what is recorded by the camera once this feature is more mature.
