hey guys, i just come back shooting fir a week with ml on 60d. i rhink i found a bug.. having the tamron 17-50mm on and a 16gb inserted the camera would work for a while and then go black. ml would still record but even the power off doesnt work anymore. i had this issue with two different 16gb brands. no problem with the 32gb card though!
i think the build is a recent one from november! any ideas?
Yes, apparently I keep forgetting that with each major update, I need to copy the entire archive to the card, not just the Autoexec. that cured my flickering (or, so it seems)
i followed your advice and formatted the 16gb card inside the camera (i was amazed to see that ML was put on there again automatically. I installed ML from 02.12
The whole morning I was filming without any issues. I specifically used the 16GB card to see if there were still issues... I had the Tamron 17-50 on and was shooting for at least an hour. Then I changed to the 70-200 f4 IS and shot for 15 minutes and suddenly... black screen, recording button still on, audio still recording, but black screen! on/off doesnt work anymore so I have to remove the battery. I switched to the 32 GB card and was fine for the rest of the day
It seems hard to reproduce the problem as it happens so randomnly, but I think it must have something to do with the following aspects:
1. apperently only happens while recording
2. after it happend i changed the bitrate from fw default to cbr 1.1x but shortly after recording it happened again so probably not a bitrate issue
3. after removing the battery and putting it back in I always get buffer issues on first recording (rec stops after 2 secs)
4. the problem might be related to using zoom lenses. I haven't experienced any issues with my super takumar 50mm. I never had any problems before I bought the Canon 70-200 f4 IS. It seems like the recording issue only happens after I put this lens on...although I had it with my tamron 17-50mm and with my canon 70-200 but I think the canon had to be on there at least once during a rec session
5. I'm not too sure anymore that this has something to do with the size of the sd card (just guessing)
6. after it happened once it's likely to happen again shortly after
I hope this helps for further development! Magic Lantern is awesome!
Just one quick site note: I liked to have the little info bar at the very top with the numerical battery and the picture profile. Is there any way to revert to this theme? Everything else looks really clean and organized now!
Cheers and thanks for ML!
If you can find a way to reproduce the issue quickly, and have a few hours of spare time, I can fix it. It doesn't happen on my lenses (the only zoom lens I have is the 18-55 kit, used exclusively for... testing rack focus). I don't have the buffer overflow problem at first startup, even with the class 2 card (I use it for development, it's very durable, I've already broken two 16GB cards ).
The top bar appears when you press the shutter halfway (or when you disable the audio meters). There's also a time remaining indicator in Power menu on 60D.
thanks for the quick feedback!
I was filming today for 3 hours with both, the tamron 17-50mm and the canon 70-200mm withouth any issues. I wish I could reproduce the issue quickly. My strategy now is to take a quick video with my iphone when it happens, maybe this will help!
I down loaded the latest version and, after failing to unzip the files, my MAC crashed big time. I have spent the last 10 hours wiping out my hard drive and re-installing all programs. Could somebody respond to this and explain why. Please send a private message so I get it.
Thanks,
Steve
