Magic Lantern enables 14-bit RAW CinemaDNG on 5D

See any jaggies, FPN, or stuttering in mine? I don't see anything on my 24". The FPN is normal and can be cleaned up pretty well in ACR. There was a judder fix on the 18/5.
Well no actually I didn't see any of that in yours. Hunter might be right about seeing the FPN at certain ISOs. I remember that being the same issue with the GH-1.

I did a quick ISO noise test last night, just looks sharper than H.264 without the in camera denoising and compression. These are crops off a screen shot, I didn't crop them the same size bu they look identical which is not the case with H.264 video. I'll test a few more ISOs today to see if there's any difference.

Yes true.

But it is a bit like complaining your Ferrari doesn't have a cup holder.

1. I'm not complaining. For the 11th time, the hack is great. Beautiful footage, dream camera (For some)
2. It's actually more like saying with your hacked motor you can only go 50 miles before fueling (12 minutes on a 64GB card) and that the fuel is 3 times as expensive, and that you must do an intensive tune every time after driving it (post workflow). Sweet if you're going to win a few races, not so sweet if you just want to travel around.
3. The MK3 is not a Ferrari, it's a super tuned 500 hp Accord. Something people thought of as superb for one purpose and okay at another suddenly has a team of dudes make it great at the other thing. With some caveats...see number 2.
An Alexa is a Ferrari. ;) lol

Thanks for this.

Have you tried this same test in a dark room, with ambient light?

My first test was really dark, I pushed it a stop in ACR, there was a lot of FPN but it cleaned up nicely in ACR. There's a prores4444 d/l

Im on the road but I brought a hacked 5dm3 with me to test during projects, not loving the colors from it at the moment but really liking the the potential of the camera.

Hunter are you seeing any exposure flickering? There was a a deflickering fix in todays build but I'm still seeing sudden exposure changes. I'm using Leica-r glass and everything auto is off. I can't figure out what the hell is causing it.

Are you processing your film in ACR/AE?

@squig I've only processed a few clips completely into video but haven't noticed an exposure flicker- thats interesting. Im using ACR in PS-> psd-> premiere but hoping to try to batch in Capture One to see if there is better quality. Im just on my 15" really old iMac at the moment so it's hard to judge color/image quality.

I worked it out, something screwy's going on between ACR and AE. I tried ACR - Photoshop - tiffs - FCP and there's no flickering. :2vrolijk_08:
I think it's a bug but I'm an AE noob so there's a chance I'm just not doing something right. Everything I've shot till now has been screwed up in post, no wonder macgregors clip looked so bloody good! It'll be a happy day when someone figures out how to convert the raws to CinemaDNG.

Isn't it fixed in the may 22nd n build Squig? I read it was addressed in the change log.

Yeah I read that but I had a look at it in the menu and it appears to be mostly related to photo mode. The flickering problem I had was definitely an Adobe or dummy issue and not related to ML.

It may have to do with the order of the images and the way they are read.
Try renaming the images in a consecutive manner different from the first time and see if you get the same flicker.
Or it could do with some images being missed in ACR for the same reason.

Typically this kind of problem occurs when making DCP's.

Nothing's being missed, there's no frame skipping. It's really strange, there's some pixelization too, it's really nasty. The photoshop process looks fine but I'm having a few workflow issues there too. Hopefully I'll have it all sorted out by tomorrow.

I've noticed that DNG from video, 5dmk3 is quite different than same DNG shot as photo, developed in ACR, Lightroom, etc. nothing scientific yet, have to do a research, at this point I would not be quite optimistic as Andrew Raid, as saying that we have exactly "moving pictures" raw, it's not, quite different, not too much room for adjusting parameters.

Have you guys noticed how the hacked footage has incredible separation? A lot of the subjects jump out of the screen even after compression viewing on Vimeo. I guess that is a combo of full frame and the lack of compression and yes it is subtle but visible. I have viewed a lot of RED footage and I am convinced that it doesn't have 'that' 3D look to it. Alexa is better but this is one of the things that has struck me the most problems of workflow aside. Also when you view downloaded footage at half screen and then go full screen the sharpness remains. A lot of inferior footage I have seems to get a lot sharper when downsampled but the hack stuff at full screen stays tack sharp. IOW - even when I view it close up it still looks great. Do you guys know what I mean or have I eaten too many marshmallows?

I am really starting to see the true potential of this beast but still undecided. Many times - I have found myself saying wow that looks great. More than I have said for videos in the past. I am really impressed.

One more thing - Hear a lot of talk about RAIDs and tonnes of HDD space needed. Why aren't folk just transcoding to Cineform RAW and saving a lot of dough? I have successfully transcoded some of the earlier DNG samples and it does just fine. Don't know if the tool allows batch processing to a format Cineform knows yet though. Folks may be missing a trick here?

Try disabling multiprocessing in AE.
