Made with a Mac

Re: Made with a Mac

Absolutely....Like HAL they are all perfect. I have found over time that unless it's a hardware issue ie bad hard drive, power supply etc. most if not all computer issues are directly related to their owners knowledge of computing systems. You could get a chimp to drive the safest car in the world too fast, and every time he'd die. Some people are just not good at the computing game. The reason to have the Mac. I mean that with total respect. For those of us who love and understand the computer, our pc's run pretty much right down the line as they are supposed to do and quite frankly, I get a good feeling knowing I have something to do with that. The Mac camp are more inclined to care less how it works as long as it allows them to be creative with minimal hassle. They are both outstanding devices with different temprements designed for different ways of looking at computing. The bashing is therefore either pointless or sarcastic jabs and pokes for fun....or should be.

PS...this is a very general theory, there are Mac users who know a lot about computers but they don't seem to be as prevolent as thier PC counterparts IMHO......Don't want to get in too deep.

Re: Made with a Mac

Whatever - Ya can keep both. My commodore 64 rocks!

[render times are long but worth the wait]

By my calculations you would need 678 years to render 15 minutes of DVX footage on a commodore 64. It better be good footage Dakota ;)

Re: Made with a Mac

Mino,
What kind of stuff do you shoot (aside from MACS) ?
Do you do any music video work?
I saw you were from Vancouver and I was wondering if you were able to go to the IMVF Indie Music Video festival?
I had a video in there last summer.

Just wondering if that was your thing. :)

;D CAVEMAN

Don't forget to add the Magic Bullet render!

Introducing the C-64 render farm. 3000 daisy chained commadores slaving away in an air conditioned bunker deep inside a mountain to produce the 5 second cadilac short before the big bang reverses itself.

Re: Made with a Mac

Mac vs. PC/ DVX vs. XL2/ Ford vs. Chevy. Wherever I'm at in life, I hope I never get to the sorry state of giving a **** about what anyone else uses.

Bottom line: Use what you like. The end.
If you have any balls, you'll never feel the need to justify yourself to anyone.

Re: Made with a Mac

Caveman
Up till now I've done and do a few corporate vids in the form of training vids. I nearly died laughing the other day when a Goverment worker phoned me to see how much it would be to produce a half hour video. I go into my question, answer routine to find out what's involved, is there power? where's the nearest bathroom blah and blah.....The bottom line is it's an empty lot and it's going to be on discovery channel....It was sooo hard to keep a straight face, and I dug for the lots claim to fame believe me...None! Just an empty lot. I have never done a music video except in college though I have ample oppertunity knowing all the wannabe bands I know. I may give it a shot at some future time, though no plans just yet. My goal is to get so rediculously good at the corporate training video then slide over into documentaries. They are different worlds but some of the elements seem to cross over in my mind. For now I'll start checking the gearlist for the Play piercing training video I'm doing this weekend.....It starts out in an s&m dungeon whatever that is.

Justify your stance only? ;)

LMAO!!!!!!! ;D. That's Brilliant!!

But I'd say that pretty much sums up everything that needs to be said about this debate EVER AGAIN!

Re: Made with a Mac

First, something that's bugging me. Technically, all these computers are PC's...both Mac and Intel/AMD based machines are all Personal Computers.

Second, there's nothing specific in the Hardware that makes either machine better or worse. Sure there are differences, but largely they negate themselves. Wintel's have to work harder electronically to attain the some of the same calculations Macs achieve with ease, so to compensate Wintel's run much faster then Mac's do. That extra horsepower shows in functions where the Mac does not excel and a Wintel box can easily outpace it.

Mac's have better system design and virtually no hardware configuration faults, but they cost slightly more then an equally equipped manufactured machine. Wintel boxes can be built from the ground up to lower costs and increase flexibility, but you can really only take advantage of those options if you do a good bit of research and know what you're doing.

The one thing that really differentiates these machines is software, not the hardware.

In my very personal opinion, OSX is simply a better operating system because of the underlying code (which admittedly has very little to do with Apple). Unix is what it is, rock solid, well-developed and ideal for reliable, steady operation. OSX is pretty and fluid and fun for the end user, but then again Windows code doesn’t really suffer any detriment at the end-user experience in comparison. However, in terms of an operating system, it’s far easier for the end user to break the code in a windows environment then it is for a Mac user to do the same (not impossible by any stretch). As many have stated here, if you know what you’re doing you will have a machine that is just as solid as a Mac. There really isn’t much to debate about that.

The only other huge difference between the two is (in my opinion again) games. Most people forget to consider this, but the Mac really stinks for gaming. The benefit of that is that more Mac users use their machines for business and creative apps, not for side-fun. A good number of high-powered Wintel users may be just as serious about their work as the Mac users, but they are more likely to install superfluous programs then Mac users are. That just provides more opportunity for code and registry changes that can introduce problems down the road, thus potentially reducing the stability of the machine overall.

Either way, it’s just a tool, and no one should be chastised or celebrated for the tool that they like to use.

It's really surprising that people can argue so passionately about a mass of silicone that isn't a breast implant. :P

Hehe, yeah I know. I mean, this thread was started by mino as a joke....and it's gotten to 7 pages long!

No, not being shifty. I'm a Vegas guy, so naturally, I build my own PCs. I've got nothing against Macs as machines, though my money's better spent building my own machine. (Maybe if Apple allowed for such a thing . . . )

Amen to that...

But Kai, it's not that they suck for gaming (though the one-button mouse is infuriatingly useless...) it's that they just don't port many worthwhile games to it...

Re: Made with a Mac

Just curious, and I'm not trying to start any flame wars, but why hasn't a thirdy party company made a cheaper mac? Or a computer that runs OSX and all Mac software?

You'd think Chine would've done that years ago..

I'll try to find the link (KAI may know where it is) but it's all going to happen as early as this year. There are 4 major pc manufacturers that are switching to OSX as their operating system.
But they'll never be as pretty as my G5. ;)

Re: Made with a Mac

Mac owns you.

Mwhahahaha.

You know what though? Have you noticed the rebellion?! The outright rebellion...Even though Soderbergh was FCP pioneer, i noticed that in Oceans 12 there were like 4 diff laptops and NONE of them were macs....in fact I'm noticing that a lot...as if it's too cliche to have the laptop be a MAC

Jerkfaces....
Long live the powerbooks.
