GH2 Mad at myself and the camera right now

I shot a music video yesterday. I called myself putting it in 720p 60p mode for slow mo..

I'm looking at footage now and IT LOOKS AMAZING..

but, the footage is at 1920 x 1080..

What is the proper way to put the camera in 720p 60p mode because I never could find anything that said "60p" only 720p

I was in manual movie mode, vs. cinema that I normally would use...

And is there any way I can get some half way decent slow mo out of this footage still, with something like twixtor?

I have seen Twixtor Pro give some pretty darn nice looking results. I guess it just takes a while for it to do its processing.

Though I've never tried it, I've heard some people say that properly deinterlaced 1080i footage yields superior slow mo to 720 60p

ntsc camera when in 720 is 60p. In pal camera it is 720 50p.
So as long as you know how to get into 720p, that's all there is.
M on dial, motion picture mode-720p

You don't say whether you are using a hacked camera or not.
If it is you can switch by changing the tv out/hdmi out to pal or ntsc, then turn off/on camera
then reformat card in camera.

For this shoot I went unhacked as I only had one card to use and was afraid I'd run out of space.
I THOUGHT I had it in 720p mode but the footage is telling me otherwise.

Is it 1080i60 or 24p?

When shooting, note that "FSH" and "FH" are 1080, and "SH" and "H" are 720 modes. If you were in "manual movie," it's probably 1080i60, which (combined with a fast shutter) often yields perfectly acceptable slow-mo... as said, sometimes even smoother than 720p.

If it's unhacked then you have pulldown removal right? So there must be a way of using it as 60i footage. Do some searching around. No way to reshoot that huh?

Im a bit confused with your post. You mistakenly "thought" you where shooting in 720p... but you instead, shot at 1080 60i?
If so, SURE! You can get some darn nice looking slow-mo footage from the 60i. There are various programs online, to properly "Deinterlaced" the footage into some nice 60p footage.
JES Deinterlacer is what I use for my Mac.
Partnered with Twixtor, its great! Heck, Motion has a pretty good motion mapper as well.

I'm not sure if this is the same confusion I had when I first got my GH2...
You need to set your dial to movie mode / Go into Menu and set to Manual Movie Mode / Go to the Motion Picture tab / Change Rec Mode to 720
And then you're set on shooting 720 50/60 (And 720 is automatically 50/60 fps, no other frame rate I believe)

I guess I accidentally left it in 1080 24p mode.. because all the footage is 24p.

I could have sworn I had it in 720p though. I haven't changed the settings since the shoot so I will check when I get home.

Were you using a monitor or recorder plugged into the HDMI port? Because if so, the camera forces itself into 1080 mode no matter what. You can specifically tell it you want 720, but when a monitor (or recorder) gets plugged into the HDMI, the camera resets to 1080.

Well at least I know why the rest of it is in 24p.. thanks for that tip... had no idea. I didn't use a monitor but they wanted to preview a clip so I plugged it into a hd monitor after like the 3rd shot, and I never changed the settings back..

but then again none of the stuff before that shot is in 60p either.. so my guess is i misread the settings..

I'll have to double check next time.

I'm trying out twixtor, but it seems to be blurring out my subject along with it.

i set one of my custom settings to 720 so i can quickly switch back and forth just by turning the knob. or press q.menu button and change to SH in the drop down box, thats the quickest way that i have found without digging into the menus
