Macbook Pro in trouble?

could someone confirm that "Blu Ray Combo Drive" actually means burner? not sure it does...

just checked sony's website. you can get either the blu-ray read only drive or the burner. the burner is $200 more than read only. burner is standard on the premium model.

The HDD options are really tempting...400gb (200gbx2 7200rpm) internal storage for a laptop!

It can be a burner or a reader, here's a link to the costumizable options.(Ugafan, hadn't read your post below while updating this one!)

wow, thanks guys. gotta say as a five year mac user that this new vaio laptop is more appealing to me as a customer. however using windows xp (via virtual machine on my Mac) for the past couple of months has me lukewarm about buying another windows machine. i mean, compared to the experience i am accustomed to, windows xp is a huge let down. i almost forgot how un user friendly it is. not to get too far off topic, but is windows vista any better at finding documents anywhere on your hard drive with a simple search box (like spotlight on os x) and at being safe without a zillion pop up warnings about viruses and etc? i already have CS3 and don't mind it at all compared to final cut suite. in many areas, it's better, particularly with the seamless integration and file sharing between applications (premiere, after effects, photoshop, etc.). plus encore can burn blu-rays (apple's "pro" software cannot) but to me, it all comes down to the OS and whether or not i like it. and i do not care much for windows xp. sorry but.. there i said it.

Go for all the options and it costs a tad over $4200.00...That's without the service plan.

$3200 for the minimun that would work for me, I'm seriously considering this and am going to hold off on my mac book pro purchase. It said they aren't shipping until Feb 29th.

Seriously, seeing the expandability options of this laptop, which are pretty much what a video professional needs, I can't accept an inferior offering from Apple. Seeing Apple's strong support/integration of the P2 workflow in FCS, I can only see them going back and adding at least the option of having a PCMCIA slot...

The current macbook pro is seriously underpowered and only OSX is keeping it from being a bad purchase.

If the Vaio accepted OSX legaly, it would be a no brainer for me. If the BLU-RAY/400gb 7200rpm, 1900x1200 display, 2.6 penryn CPU and PCMIA slot is not matched on the upcoming Macbook Pro, this VAIO is a no brainer. I give Apple 2 months to come up with an answer. (In time for my double payyment :) )

WHAT? Sorry, dude, you just made me do a spit-take... Apple has the weakest integration of P2 of any major (or even minor) NLEs (excepting only Sony Vegas; fortunately Raylight can fix some of both Vegas' and FCP's shortcomings when it comes to the P2 situation).

Yes lots of people work FCP with FCP and P2, but seriously, FCP's P2 support is a band-aid patch compared to the true "strong integration" you'll find in EDIUS or Premiere Pro CS3. Download the demos, give 'em a try, and see what it could be like.

.

But I'm so used to it...The workflow, color correction, my plugins, quicktime... :( I invested so much money in an Apple workflow...
2 Months. I give them 2 months! :)
