Can I read the P2 card in a macbook pro ?

You'd need the duel-systems adapter, but if you have that then yes.
Barry,

Have you personally used this adapter on a MacBook Pro? I am trying to find out if it works by just plugging it into the Express34 slot and loading up a P2 card?

Or are some other drivers necessary and are they all available?

All the necessary drivers are delivered with the adapter. And it works like a charm - and faster than via a PCMCIA slot (in OSX).

Hi, this is my first post on DVXUser and I'm very happy to be part of this community...

Is the 1.67 Ghz Mac G4 laptop too slow to "Capture Now" straight from the camera into FCP using 1394?

I'm trying to figure out how I can capture long interviews without swapping out P2 cards and just recording to an external harddrive through FCP.

Thanks in advance, your help is greatly appreciated...

I was thinking in a macbook for some reasons:
- FinalCut, direct capture, great image with Matrox MXO and Cinema dis[lay and runs windows for extra applications like HD Rack, etc...

[FONT=Lucida Grande,Geneva,Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif]Specifications for the macbook pro

spacer.gif
  • 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
  • 1GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 1x1GB
  • 120GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
  • SuperDrive 6x (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
  • MacBook Pro 15-inch Widescreen Display
  • Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
  • Accessory Kit

But a Macbook pro starts at US$ 2.000,00 , what is the cost for a good Sony VAIO SZ440 with same specs, plus:

Multimedia Card Reader
Memory Stick DUO™ media withMagicGate® functionality
ExpressCard™ /34 Slot: 5-in-1 Memory Card Adaptor (VGP-MCA20) supporting Memory Stick® media, Memory Stick PRO™ media, Secure Digital, xD-Picture Card, and MultiMediaCard (MMC)
PCMCIA (Type II/Type I card slot with CardBus support)

It should read the P2 card directly...

What you think ?

Thanks,
Ulisses

card readers are 10 bucks
mem stick included
duel adapter works on macbook pro just fine. only 120 bucks.

I think you are losing far to much not getting a macbook pro. Unless the Sony comes with BD but even then its an OS limited machine.

It'll work, but you have to get a Firewire adapter for the PCMCIA cards slot. And capture to an external Firewire hard drive (800 performs much better than 400 for video). The single Firewire port built into the PowerBook won't handle both the hard drive and camera's video stream at the same time. So the card gives you two data busses to handle the large amounts of data flowing in and out. I've done it with my 17" PowerBook G4.

My most favorite way to do what you need it using my FS-100. Use it all the time, love it.

Does anyone know if the P2 Store will ever be able to work with Intel based Macs? And if not, how would one transfer data and reuse cards in the field if a laptop workflow or firestore solution is not possible? Is there some technical reason as to why Panasonic can not make the P2 store operate on Intel based Macs?

Laptop workflow is possible. PC Laptop. :D

But you can get the PCMCIA adapter that everyone has preodering. I forgot the name of it. It's all over though.

Duel Adapters?? Is that it?
