mac won't recognize P2 card either-

This is where I'm stuck:
I'm unable to view or import clips using using Final Cut Pro. I downloaded driver software from P2 support desk and P2 Log Demo. maybe I didn't download the right driver for my powermac.
The computer recognizes the camera P2 as a harddrive and I can't view clips in P2 Log. In FCP I can see the thumbnails but can't view clips and when trying to import it reads error "one or more P2 clips failed to import; probable incomplete or corrupt clips" but the clips are fine. where can I go from here?

You should update your software to FCP 5.0.4 first and then do the crossgrade to FCP 5.1. And which OS? You should be at 10.4.8.

The bug is intermittent and hard to nail down. Occasional files fail to import or sometimes import after several trials.
