Hello,

I helped DP a few Mac-PC spoof ads for a director buddy of mine on the HVX. He uploaded them to youtube last night and there are almost 4000 views per video already! If you have a 2 minutes, please take a look at these 30sec spots using the links below. If you like these, please rate or comment (on youtube) and forward them on to your friends and acquintances as well :) Enjoy!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxQS_3A7_Fc ("Music")
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0gRgls2eYc ("Money")
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BUOXVI7HeI ("Work")
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_vV5mZ8Ox8 ("Girl")

Note, these have been downgraded like crazy by youtube and somehow turned out a bit darker than originally rendered.

Good production value but beyond that I don't really find them funny or accurate. But then again I prefer Macs over Pcs. And from the parody ads, PC doesn't really come across as that great of a guy, being only interested in money and the girls that money brings. But I guess everyone has different priorities in life.

Fine production value aside, I guess we'll have to agree to STRONGLY disagree. I only watched the first 2 so my critique of them would be this: music file sharing is illegal - so #1 is kinda 'eh'. #2 - Doing spreadsheets is also possible on a Mac. However if PC actually WERE the only way to do spreadsheets, I would rather go back to using an abacus, charcoal and papyrus.

Update - I just broke down and watched the other two. As the DP you nailed it on a technical level. However, you can tell whoever wrote those knows absolutely nothing about Macs.

meh..

I am a mac user.. and don't find the apple commercials to be anything too good... the parodies are even worse.. these look fine..

but content is meh..

though I suppose if this many people are parodying the commericals.. apple must be doing something right..

Technical level - Looks good. Wish I could see a non-you tube version.

Content - I'm not even a Mac advocate, though I use one, and these are rather unfunny and inaccurate.

Looked cool, though. How'd you go about the "white room" look?

I'm a Mac user, and I use PC too. A balanced guy, or schizophrenic?

Anyway - c'mon you guys... those spoofs are spot-on! They may not be accurate, but then the Mac = Dude / PC = Accountant isn't exactly telling it like it is either... so, fair game. Great casting, great timing, great parody. I laughed. It made me happy. Good job Norm!

im gonna mkae one where I walk on set and laughs at the mac/PC guys for even caring...

HAHAHA! NICE! Loved them! HAHA! The Money one had me rolling! "You could make your landlord one of those cool movies." HAA!

I like the ads. They're spot on.

Without this denigrating completely into one of those threads - you've got admit that the Mac ads of the same ilk are just as full of fallacy as these.

PCs can manage, often without proprietary restrictions strictly for the purpose of controlling all the $$$ (read: iTunes, iPod, iPhone), to accomplish everything the Mac kid claims in those spots.

On my Toshiba XP Pro machine I can have six browser tabs open, Photoshop up with a 300dpi 4x6 image and supporting files in addition to a 720pn VEG taster project with external drive files and not crash the system.

I guess I'm not running ProTools, but I seem to manage to do a lot of what a Mac can do. Seems the concept is pretty much empty no matter what side of the OS you live.

I've been a PC guy since college when they stopped putting free Macs in front of me.

I guess I'd be a little hostile too if I invested in Mac equipment and had to constantly hear how Mac was going to go out of business for the better part of the 1990s. Or how Mac machines don't really make Apple any money and that what is effectively a thinner Diamond Rio player in form, ergonomics and function (flashback to 2001!!!) is the only thing that keeps them in the black.

That's just what I keep hearing anyway. By the way, before the flameout starts, I do love Macs and what Steve Jobs has spurred PC developers to do through their innovations.

He's still a tool though.

Damn how freaking sensitive are mac users? Who gives a flying f...

I really don't care to be honest. Apple computers serves me quite well for what I need them to do so if people want to rail on them fine by me because it's really not going to change how well they work for me. Though there is one thing people are forgeting here. The new Intel Macs can run Windows so they can essentially do everything a PC can. This makes me happy when it comes to software that only runs on Windows.

Are you high? (That would explain the little 'e' at the end and everthing that preceeded it.)

im a mac user... but who gives two SH%$#???jk

I think people should just use what fits their needs, everyone will ALWAYS preference (just not my gf when it comes to mac-pc usage...HAHA)

Truthfully I would like to give two thumbs and a smile for the well done visuals. I am also curious on how was the white room effect properly done? I had some obvious Ideas, but I want know what do you others have to share? Was the shot done In a physically all-white room (silly noob kinda ?) or was it done with greenscreen and then chromakeyed or whatever to insert the white BG?

peace and thx
elijah
