Mac P2 help

Hi I need someone to staight up step by step help me set up my p2 media. I have logged clips before by just clicking import p2 media in FCP. Now it imports but it's gliched to shi* and I have a 48 hour ff on friday. I think it might be a mounting problem or something because the orange p2 light is always flashing.

How about some specifics about what you are trying to do?

Sounds like you're using a p2 store. But that's all you've told us. Even if my guess is correct.

What does "gliched [sic] to shi*" mean exactly?

We can't see your workflow or computer or NLE from here.
 
Hi what I'm trying to do is log my footage into final cut pro to edit. I plug my hvx into the quad tower via firewire. I have not used a p2 store. The clips play but they are gliched. Plays but it looks like a dv tape would play if you didnt clean the heads for about 20 years. The orange light should shine constant but it flashes.

Ok, I bet you're looking at the P2 Import preview window. It's not a full rez playback window, it's just a quickie preivew. Still don't know what you mean by "gliched". Have you opened the clips in the Viewer to see how they play back?

Also, how much RAM is in the tower, what is your scratch disk?
 
Hi there CPU Speed: 2.5 GHz,Memory: 8 GB. I opened the clips in the viewer and they play the same. I dont know how to explan it. They play but with lines and colored dots everywhere on the frame. I have my scratch hooked up to an external lacie terabyte.
 
This problem is not consistant in that since, it seems to crop up here and there. Many computer problems are like that, due to the hundreds of variables involved.
 
Try using another firewire cable and make sure the connectors are seated properly. I would try gold plated shielded with ferrite if you are not allready.

Try using USB Device mode and the using a USB cable, and then Make sure the P2 card is in Write Protect Mode. Works 100% of the time for me
 
By seated you mean securely connected right? Also now the footage works fine. (720 and 480) All the sudden it worked. Ok now I'm confused. I went back to try and see why. I'm clueless here. I can't figure this one out. I think I'm going to have to shoot tape until I get fcp 5.1.2.

All you have to do is make sure the P2 card is in write protect mode before you connect it to the Mac. Ive done this with 6 different Macs, all work perfect. I however CANNOT get firewire to work 100% of the time on my 4 macs here at the house.
