Mac - FAT32 or Mac OS Extended

Hi guys!

I just bought an HVX200. Spent the last week going over most workflow issues posted in the forum. I'm kind of troubled with all the recent Mac-related glitches and data corruption.

I planning on offloading P2 cards to a USB powered 100GB Seagate HD vía CardBus slot (G4 1.5Ghz PowerPC). If I plan on importing into FCP from the Seagate HD, according to what I've read, I should format my external HD as a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) partition. If I understood correctly most corruption and glitch problems are related with FCP imports from FAT32 partitions. Is this correct?

Thanks!

I havnt had any problems with corruption on any HDD's . But i can definatly tell you that you dont want to partition it as a JOURNALED format. Mac OS Extended is what you want to use if you are running an ALL Mac setup. THe Fat system is for transfering from Windows and Mac i believe.

Journaled HDD's are for when the OS is on the drive and is searched , specifically for spotlight. Journaling a capture / footage drive will slow it down.

However, copying to a journalled drive has never presented a problem to me.

As in copying over p2 cards from the cam.

Thanks guys!

I just had my first issue. Recorded 2 clips to a 4GB P2 and imported into FCP 5.0.4 from CardBus slot with no problems at all. Reinserted the P2 into the cam, formatted the card and recorded 3 clips. This time only the Contents folder appeared, no LASTCLIP.TXT, and apparently no files. FCP wouldn't recognize the card and could not import. I connected my cam in PC Mode and voila everything was there, imported fine from FCP 5.0.4.

Appears to be a PCMCIA driver issue.

Thanks!
Just applied for the Crossgrade :) Should be receiving 5.1 and upgrading to 5.1.2 by this weekend.

Cool. Not only the compatibility issues being addressed, you also get the new P2 software built into the FCP import:

FYI,

All my drives are Journaled and I've never had a problem with them doing video editing.

The Mac problems aren't data corruption, but the Mac seeing data corruption where there is none. I've found taking that same P2 data to another Mac or to a PC usually works.
