hello, please help me in understand if my copy of this lens is ok.
When i zoom in i cannot stop to have littler "step" making abruptlyzoomig , and i am talking in video of course. no matter how delicate i manage it, can't avoid a uneven zoomin
Is his normal for this lens or is supposed to zoom in and out smooth anyway
thanks

FWIW, my experience with this is from the panny 12-35 f/2.8. I bought it new from B&H, and I was having your problem - basically it was hard/impossible to smoothly zoom, because the movement was 'steppy' due to the ring not moving smoothly. I asked on this board what to do, and people had different opinions. In the end, I asked for an exchange, and B&H shipped me a new 12-35 - and it's like butter. I am SO glad I did that.

Now, I don't know the 14-45 and what to expect and what's normal, but if it were ME, based on my previous experience, I would absolutely exchange the lens. But YMMV, and it's just IMHO.

two different opinion. that said 12 35 and 14 45 are totally differnt range of lens, for final use and cost.also 14 45 has only manual zooming...best choice would be to have someone that own it answering

I have a 14-45, it just does that. The lens was designed before video was implemented in the system anyway. I would not exchange the lens. It is an optical marvel. Don't zoom while filming or make quick slam zooms and enjoy the sharp images would be my advice.

An exchange likely won't help him. Unlike your 12-35 which is a constant aperture zoom, the 14-45 max aperture varies as one zooms. Even using smaller than max apertures, the 14-45 will not give good smooth zoom performance in video mode.

It's not meant to. Aside from that it is a much better overall lens than the 14-42mm, I have two of them (both purchased used but in brand new shape) and ordered a 3rd (used) for a camera I was giving my grandson.

About the only way to get a lower cost smooth optical zoom for mirrorless/DLSR cameras is to use older constant aperture zoom lenses, like a Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8 or Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 lens.

If you add on a SpeedBooster adapter like the MetaBones Nikon-G style SpeedBooster, then your 17-35mm f/2.8 lens becomes a 12-25mm f/2.0 zoom lens, or the 17-55mm f/2.8 becomes a 12-39mm f/2.0 zoom lens.

in fact the real proble is focusing while zooming
iwas thinking to change it with the 14 42 x (this is supposed to be similr inquality to 14 45,and better than 14 42)
but..i it pssble to focus while zooming to have a correct footage without being out of focus?
for me now is so difficult

another question about speedboster. i see that gives mre aperture loosing some range. i have some Minolta rokkors lenses, for example the 35 70 costant. i already have th rokkor to m43 adapter.if i put another adapter..will result in lossing too much light being so many distance between lens and camera sensor?

another question about speedboster

1- The SpeedBooster REPLACES your normal m43 lens adapter, so you NEVER use two adapters at the same time.

2- The standard SpeedBooster concentrates the light to the m43 sensor area, providing you with ONE EXTRA STOP of light.

...So a f/4.0 lens becomes a f/2.8 lens, a f/2.8 lens becomes a f/2.0 lens, a f/2.0 lens becomes a f/1.4 lens, etc...

3- The standard SpeedBooster gives you a much WIDER angle of view. It has a CROP FACTOR of 0.71x, so a 50mm f/1.4 lens becomes a 35mm f/1.0 lens with the SpeedBooster.

I shot five interviews on Saturday using a Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AI-S lens and a low-cost SpeedBooster ( about $156 US with shipping from eBay ), which produced fantastic results. I am very happy with this combo for single person interviews on the GHx cameras. In post the image was much softer than the normal Lumix glass, so I had to add a fair bit of sharpening, but looked absolutely great once it was corrected.
