LUMIX 100-400mm LENS TOO SOFT FOR WILDLIFE ON MY GH4

Take a look at the Lumix 100-400mm review at LensTip.com, specifically the lens resolution test...

Now compare this to the Olympus 300mm f/4.0 review at LensTip.com, and you will see quite a difference.

When I read these two reviews, I knew that I was no longer interested in the Panasonic 100-400mm lens.
Interesting,i dont think the E-PL1 is a 4k camera or if so what the video crop is, not that that affects the lens test,The GH4s 4K crop is almost 2.5x on the GH5 i think its down to 2x so the Olympus lens would be 600mm 35mm equivalent which would be very limiting for me if i get a GH5.
So tests prove the Lumix 100-400mm is not a great lens but mine is inconsistent as well, acceptable at times at others not so which is what is is annoying me.

It's not. I didn't use the video on it much (I had one, gave it to brother-in-law when his camera broke) because if I remember right it was too limited (like only 720p if I remember correctly).

The video (and still) crop on it was 2X.

I tend to agree with others who felt your problems on the "long end" of the zoom are related to atmospheric distortions which can vary a lot. I occasionally run into a bit of that with the Lumix 45-200 on the "long end", and that is my longest lens at present. Your only solution would be, difficult as it is, to "Indian up" and get closer to the wildlife.

Yes i have that 45-200 as well,no problems,i hope the 100-400 works better with the GH5 when i get mine,i am excchanging the the GH4 it never worked out for me. as i hoped.Apparently the GH5 4k video is now 2x crop but has 4k ETC .
