Any tips on how to film low light scenes and not have it set on a high ISO? I;'d like to avoid grain if i can. Or maybe theres a free filter or plugin where i can eliminate some of the grain?

i shoot alot in low light. Use 1.4 or 1.8 lenses and a on-camera light if you can. Neat Video works pretty nice. Its a plugin. Its not free, but it works well.

yea i just heard about neat video. wished it was free lol. does a slower shutter speed allow more light in? like if i set it to something like 1/5th is that bad to do? its normally on 1/60th.

Well if you set your shutter speed that slow, you will have massive blurring for any motion with in the frame. That is not advisable.

Not all gear will even go that low shutter-wise.

If you have after effects, the "remove grain" filter can do impressive things and it's already in there. (You can always check eBay for a deal on AE7 and upgrade later - lots of useful stuff, esp. the "pro" version. The Standard & Pro difference was phased out at the CS level I believe). The best noise removal device is a whole bunch of photons on set though.

An on-camera light could help if you want what's right in front of you lit and the rest dark; I'm no expert on those & have never owned one, others may have some tricks up their sleeves.

A couple worklights and some bedsheets or foamcore can really fill a room if this is a budget issue; if it's a no-lights-allowed location... do your best.
