'Low' - 7D feature trailer

I thought it looked great. Really well shot.
I would cut a few things from the trailer though. I think it shows too much.

Lose the scene of him strangling the hiker and I would also lose the scene with her holding the gun.

Just my opinion though. Looks really good.
Best of luck.

yeh i agree with MAH...it looks really good. but i think its giving away alot....well unless you have MUCH more in store :) I think it also can be one minute less..thats alot i know but its a trailer.

what lenses did you use? some of those shots are steller

Thanks for the comments guys! Really appreciate that you enjoyed the cinematography, means a lot. The whole thing is shot with the canon 50mm 1.8, wide open with ND filters. There are 2 shots in there when they're running from a cheap kit lens, canon 18-55mm.

As for the content, yep there's a whole lot more in the full film, this shows the initial set-up only really.

Again, thank you so much for taking the time to view!

I liked the look of it, but why would you shoot the whole movie @ f1.8? Its good to have shots where things are in focus while only using the shallow depth for stressing importance on a subject. Looking forward the the movie, but I've seen to many indy films ruined by shooting the whole thing @ f1.4.

Ok, I exaggerated a bit, I didn't shoot the WHOLE thing at 1.8, but quite a bit of it. Just down to personal preference I guess!

Nice cinematography. Audio was great. But to me the massively crushed blacks makes it look less professional than it would otherwise. Feels very DSLR bandwagon. I've never seen anything in a theater with that look.

Love it ..+1 MAH said it shows to much and now Ive seen it :(

Im impressed that you shot it with the plastic fantastic at f1.8 too. It looks good though. You get some nice bokeh at that f stop. Titling worked to.

Hope we can view the full feature on the net so I can Pixel peep with my fellow dvxians , just made that up !

No problem.

I still think you should cut those scenes out though. We see the Hiker come across them and wonder what's going to happen.
I would leave it that way, it's good. Instead we see the guy on top of the hiker choking him.

Same goes with the gun. Not sure I want to see her with the upper hand at all.

Now I'll know when watching the feature.... 'Oh wait, she gets out of 'x' predicament because she doesn't have the gun yet.'

See where I'm coming from?

Your call though. It looks good. Just leave the audience with more questions that can only be answered by watching the feature.

Cheers,

Hey! Once again, thanks for the interest in the movie, love hearing your ideas :D

About showing too much - I do see where you're coming from, certainly thought carefully about what I showed versus what I didn't. Certain aspects of the film are essential to communicate in the trailer, if the film will find the right audience and distributors will know what Im shopping them and see the true marketing potential (such as the action/gun scenes) Look at some big trailers for recent movies, if you've seen the finished films you'll be surprised at how much gets shown.

More important than this stuff however, is that 90% of what you see here is all from the 1st act, the 2 main character plots lines are safely still kept secret.

Thanks again!

Its shot very well and loved the audio.

It just felt long. Obviously we don't know what you left out and what the story is, but trailers should leave you wanting more, if the trend is that it feels long then it isn't an effective trailer.

Don't get me wrong, I like what I saw but partly because I'm into shooting with DSLR's and appreciate the challenge of working with them, the trailer as such didn't hold my [or my wife's] attention. A director friend of mine once told me "Don't fall in love with your work." Once we surgically removed the tripod I shoved up his ass he went on to explain "shorter is always better."

I'm just mad because the tripod has never worked right since...
