Loop thru laptop?

I've got a last generation powerbook w P2 card slot for easy card reading and a G5 w FCP and external HD drives for storage. As P2CMS searches the laptop now connected to the G5 via firewire, I wonder if it is "safe" or even possible to transfer content from the P2 cards loaded into the laptop through firewire, through the G5 and onto ext HD....anyone?

Thanks, Drew

Safe-ish but incredibly slow. Why not just attach a FW drive to the laptop and be done with it. Networking is not going to speed it up much.

If you are referring to putting the PowerBook in the firewire target disk mode, then I think it's just about as fast as copying to an external FW.

Thanks for the replies. I was using target mode and the ext fw drive intended for storage was in use at the time so I thought I would try to loop thru. It was working, but indeed slow so I ended up attaching the ext drive to the laptop when it became available. The tech works and life is good.
