Looking to Buy ND Filters

What ND filters do you recommend for shooting video with the 7D?

I use the Canon 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 AF IS kit lens (I know, I suck), which is 72mm, and a Nikon 50mm f1.8, which is 52mm for the majority of my shooting.

Is there a brand you guys swear by?

I'm just looking to get a good set of ND filters, since I've done a lot of outdoor shooting lately, and I've had a lot of the same issues as others with proper exposure and getting dynamic range outside.

First thing I would say is buy once and buy well. Don't bother cheaping out, because later on you will just buy them all again. I use a Lee Filter Holder/Hood combo which I like a lot and then I use Hitech filters. they do a 3-pack of ND filters. You can definitely spend more - but I think that's the minimum you would want to go for.

So what would that come to, you think?

I prefer quality over price in all my long-term buys, and since lenses are more a staple than the camera itself, I don't mind the expense.

Whatever you get, make sure it is multi-coated. Hoya and B+W are good brands, although certainly not the only ones.

I have the tiffen kit. I bought the 77mm kit and a step up ring from 72mm to 77mm so i can use the kit on my 28-135mm and any "good" lens that I rent (usually 77mm).

I have an ND fader as well and it's invaluable. The ability to dial it to the exact look I want is great. I only wish I'd gotten a larger size instead of getting the 58mm. Gonna correct that soon.
