Me too!
I love my funky old CCD Canon HV20 ( of course tape sucks). Unfortunately, a big enough CCD sensor would be cost prohibitive . The HV20 uses a 1/3 sensor as I recall.

Lastly I don't know where you got the hot rod HV20 with the CCD sensor, as Canon only produced CMOS versions.

I'm hoping for a Global CMOS.
I'm skeptical of that claim. While it was thought that CMOS would be cheaper, from my reading it seems the overall costs of production is about the same for both.
Be careful what you wish for.
CCDs are typically slower than CMOS sensors, & often have their own imaging quirks.

We only had one GH3 shipped to us, and Chris was demoing it in the video. That left us with no choice but using a separate camera, so I used the FS700, my current favourite camcorder. Right in the video description and my blog post about the shoot I mention that this is the case.
My 2 cents on reviews of pre-production models..... About 2 years ago the same happened with the GH2, including tons of high ISO tests, and it all looked fantastic and everybody went AAAAAAAH and OOOOOOOOH. But now everybody (including me) is complaining about the noise in >ISO400. So I'm very careful with this GH3. No waveform, no focus peaking, 4:2:0? A more serious stills camera? WiFi to iPad monitoring is awesome of course but they could have implemented waveform in that. I think for now I'll stick with my GH2 and wait for the digital Bolus (4:4:4) or that Chinese Alexa clone.
I think we all realize that. It's just visually dis-consonant to be SEEING with a $8,000 camera a demo about a $1,200 camera.
Plus I've always detested the long drawn out walk-throughts of features.
I don't need the evangelism, just the samples.
Nice job though!
Zoom
With the 12-35mm f/2.8 lens we used in testing, zoom is controlled manually by turning a zoom ring on the lens itself. There’s no control on the camera or lens for changing field of view, except for a digital zoom that degrades image quality rather severely. Powered zoom lenses are available for the Micro Four Thirds system, however, which have a motor built into the lens for zooming in and out smoothly.
Looks like they missed it completely.
Here's the specs from the Panasonic web page:

Extra Tele Conversion
Still image: Max.2x (Not effective with L size recording. Magnification ratio depends on the recording pixels and aspect ratio.) / Motion image: 2.4x, 3.6x, 4.8x (Magnification ratio depends on the recording quality and aspect ratio.)

There is a line right above this in the specs that shows digital zoom of 2x and 4x, but I believe that is just a magnifier in live view and not acctually a recording mode.

yeah i've seen some specs that miss it out the ETC details for some reason, and some that include them. there was a photo around somewhere of a manual and it stated no ETC mode in video!i'm hoping that it may have been left out of early demo manual as it may not have been operational on the pre-production models.
it better be in there! i've been looking forward to that nice little free feature!i'm sure it will be in the final FW. probably worrying myself over nothing.
iirc, Philip Bloom stated that he used ETC for a few shots in "Genesis." Barry Green has also stated that ETC is still there, so there's no need to worry.
