Looking for a zoom lens - does this exist?

I am looking for a zoom lens, something like an 18-55 for my T2i. However, I don't want the lens barrel to "expand out" (does that make sense??) as I zoom. Does a lens like this exist? I'm happy with any brand. Any help here is greatly appreciated...

Yes, this makes perfect sense.

most still lenses won't have that, but some will. One that I have heard alot of is the Tokina 28-80 f/2.6-2.8. It doesn't extend during focus or zooming.

All the 70-200 lenses from canon don't extend either.
 
Here are some more that don't:
17-40f/4L
16-35 f/2.8L
Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 II EX DC HSM
Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 Di LD (IF) Macro

My Tokina 28-70/2.8 and Sigma 15-30 is also internal zooming, I believe the Canon 24-70/2.8 is also internal zooming. I also have a Sigma 20-40/2.8 that only extends a little bit.

I am about 95% sure that the 24-70 2.8 from canon and sigma both extend while zooming. They actually extend out as you get to wider focal lengths.

Yes, you're correct. Thanks for the info.

I just looked, and my Tokina 11-16/2.8 is also internal zooming. Interestingly, I also have a couple of 35-105/3.5 zooms that are about 30yrs old that are internal zooming.
