I have a Sigma 28mm, Canon 50mm, kit lens and some other lenses and none of them could give me that very cool micro shot I was looking for of someones eye. Which lens would allow me to do this?

You can use something like that :
http://cgi.ebay.com/Macro-Extension...333?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a0ee00afd
and do the job...the first video on my vimeo page is all done with a tube like that...you can check it if you like...
The Sigma AF 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC HSM OS macro is my latest purchase and it is a nice solution if you want to have all in one for a normal price...
For my needs at least...its just fine!
+1 for the macro extension tubes, but, beware:
* actual macro lenses use additional technologies (such as floating elements) in order to mantain image quality while focusing that close; chances are, your lens won't be as sharp with the macro tubes as it is when shooting a portrait; not a big deal, just the reason some people buy expensive macro lenses
* you lose access to all the electronics in the lens; you probably will focus manually anyway, but the aperture thing may be important: you may find the DoF too shallow in the macro range, and wish you could close your iris; it's not impossible to do that with a modern EOS lens, but the process is very cumbersome (put lens on camera without macro tubes, set aperture, un-mount lens while hitting DoF preview, the iris will be stuck at that position; mount tubes, mount lens, shoot) (I avoid all these issues by using vintage lenses, with manual aperture rings)
