Mike, sorry. Twice I split the focus of your thread. Not sure what JohnN was so angry about...

Anyway, I ended up booking a couple gigs and I still haven't had a chance to test your adapter. I hope this weekend- I'll post a clip as soon as I can.

Out of place question, forgive me, but what exactly is "Chromatic Abberation"?

Here's a pictorial example:

Fuj1.jpg

Look at the purple and green fringing. That focus chart on the far right should theoretically be solid black and white, but the chromatic aberration is causing ghostly shadows of green and purple. There's also purple fringing all through the silver object, and there's green fringing on the lower right of the silver object. The various wavelengths of light are not being focused properly to exactly the same spot, so you get basically color shadows around objects.

Barry, thanks a ton. That makes sense. At least it does now that I can actually see what the result is.

I did a bunch of reading on the topic but it was just an abstract idea without the picture.

Mike, I don't think any filter will fix that sort of thing. As I understand it it is a flaw in the optics.

Thanks again,

thanks barry, it cleared it up for me as well. i seem to find this a common problem amongst 35mm adapters. is this the same as "ghosting?" what is the cause, and how to prevent it?

I didn't see it on your footage Mike. I haven't tested the one I got from you but we'll see soon.

The g35 footage I've looked at seems very clean.

rook - would be good to see your tests.. I noticed a bit around the buildings on the 'sequence1.mov' file.

the average viewer would really only notice it on a lens chart. Camera freaks and video professionals might see it in the footage, but I doubt it. Hopefully the films story takes the viewer away from scrutinizing the footage.

hey mike, Finally found a few mins to play with your adapter.

Tell the truth, I'm having a pretty hard time with it. Maybe it's just hard to get used to but I can't seem to get a decent focus on anything.

I'll post some grabs soon.
