FS7: Long Lens Image Stabilization

Doug is the R. Lee Ermey of shooters. He calls it as he sees it. And he has the experience to back it up. I'd get slammed for some of the stuff I've shot over the years. Take the criticism and learn from it.

Oh well i have to back track and come back after all that again, apart from one person everyone on here sounds like military afraid of their top boss, the 1st film i put on this post was not my own and i stand by what i said of the nasty comments not ordinary criticism on it,i know my own films are far from perfect & with this film the comment i got was sadly another cheap camera https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFu--XUsgfI All the remarks elude to unless you spend many many thousands on equipment its a waste of time bothering to make films at all,i have never had enormous sums to spend on equipment and when i left super 8 in 1980 it was a two part VHS combination i started with,i have a fair expense of kit now most of it GH5 and lenses,as far as the Nikon goes it is without doubt only good for stills and quality video if the subject is not moving at long focal length,on wide angle its no problem.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMLYl-1GIv8

... and people on this forum picked on me for stereotyping old people. I'm willing to bet real folding money that Doug is over 50.

Before you all get your dander up, I'm one old, grumpy, know-it-all, SOB.

And you would be right. But I didn't get this way with age, my attitude and way of doing business has been the same my whole life. When you start out early in your career working on high-end live sports and television news -- with firm deadlines and lots of pressure for everyone on the crew, you learn to get a thick skin pretty fast and not to waste time on unnecessary chatter. Say what you gotta say and move on. But mostly you learn to shut up, watch, listen, and learn from the people that got there before you. And if you suck or make a mistake, be prepared to keep your mouth closed, learn from it, and also take some heat from your colleagues. That is how you learn and get better. If you want touchy feely crap go get fluffed by your virtual friends on Fecebook. This is a business -- not a kindergarten where everybody has to feel good at the end of the day.

This is the internet after all and maybe YouTube screwed up the playback, but most of it looked like it was real-time and there was one to two shots that looked like interpolated slow-mo that was missing frames

And I'm not sure where the "contradicting the experts on slow-mo" comment was going exactly, but wildlife is full of slow-mo capture. Or did I misinterpret what you said?

Wish i could put Dynasty by the BBC on here contradicts everything the experts on here say, sometimes slow motion looks pleasing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFu--XUsgfI Sadly another cheap cam

Are there any other otter examples ... sorry couldn't resist :)..

So I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on a new tripod to help with my image stabilization issues. I'm looking for something that will work similar to my FSB-8 and Sachtler sticks that I currently have, but that will handle heavier loads and get me into a 100mm bowl. I'm needing something that will help run my FS7II and 70-200/100-400mm lenses. My FS7II is pretty stripped down with no baseplates. Just a tripod plate with 15mm rails for lens support. My budget for a tripod/fluid head combo is $4,300-4,400. I cannot go above that. I also am not one to purchase used gear as I've had bad experiences with that.

Keeping that in mind, I've narrowed my search to two tripods that fit my budget and that get me into a 100mm bowl and a bigger weight capacity than my FSB-8. The two I'm looking at are a FSB-10 and a Cartoni Focus 18. I've linked both fluid head/tripod combos below for reference. Do any of you have recommendations between the two, or is there another fluid head/stick combo I should be looking at within my budget to be able to run my FS7II with a 70-200/100-400mm lenses? Thanks for your help!
