loading jpeg onto canon 60d, won't show up

I'm trying to load a Jpeg image into the canon 60D, to view it on the LCD... It won't show up... I basically snapped a picture, brought it into photoshop, modified it with some crop marks (so I know where to tape the edges on the LCD)... resaved it as a JPEG, put it onto an sd card, turned on the camera to review the pictures on the card and it won't show up... any ideas?

That's your problem right there.

Generally, digital cameras are lousy at playing back anything other than a file they took. I know someone who tried many times in vain to create a video that would play back on the camera to use as reference. He copied the bitrate, codec, everything he could to make the camera think it was a file that it took. But no avail- somehow the camera knew it was an imposter and would refused to play. The same is true of jpegs, apparently.

This is usually because they are not outfitted with a standard jpeg or h.264 decoding library. When you play a video or file on your PC, it calls a library of decoding schemes to draw the image (or images) contained- how they are encoded depends on the source and settings, and can have virtually unlimited variations. The cameras are not outfitted with those- rather, they are outfitted with the ability to play back the exact scheme used to record the image or movie ONLY.

So, technically, if you manage to copy the jpeg settings exactly that the camera would use, you could "trick" the camera into thinking it is one of their own. But it is a very difficult and annoying task to perform. I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone do it successfuly, honestly.

Did you just drop the file onto an SD card? Unless you placed it in the same folder from whence it came, on an SD card formatted for the camera, you probably won't have much luck. The camera is looking for images in a vary particular file structure. It's not going to see an image on the card's root directory.

Read the manual. It should state plainly that is isn't possible (my G10 manual does, anyway... :D ).

Thanks for the responses! I thought it wasn't possible, but wanted to see if anyone has successfully done it...

Also, I did put the jpeg in the correct folder where the camera writes all the other jpegs.
