LIGHTNING!!! Overcranked slo-mo

Some lightning I shot during a recent thunderstorm, overcranked at 60fps.
Mostly 1/120 shutter (and a little 1/250), and some occasional further slowing (and speeding up) in post.

There's some flash banding, but actually not near as bad as I expected.
Could be my imagination (or coincidence), but it seemed there was less banding after I changed ISO from 640 to 800.

Took a little over 1.5 hours to shoot, on the front and rear edges of the storm.
Canon EF 17-35 2.8L

Go Fullscreen, let me know how it looks on your monitor, thanks.

On a LG FLATRON LED 21" looks fantastic, banding is not bad, have you tried PHYX Deband plugin, works well.
Loved the job BTW

I haven't heard of PHYX, I'll look into it, thanks.
Like I said, I had expected the banding to be much worse, and imagine it would have been out of control on a Canon DSLR.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks Matt! I see the lightning itself (not my humble video) as "awesome" in the literal sense: inspiring awe.

Lightning is some crazy stuff, right? Imagine capturing (and storing) all that power...

Don't want to steal your thread; you have some sweet footage there. But if anyone really wants to see some awesome slow-mo lightening, do a You Tube search for lightening and Phantom. It is awe-inspiring.

Wonderful! I have listened to the 9th scores of times and never experienced it like this . . . Bravo!

Thanks- Beethoven seems to often work well for dramatic nature. And if you know the 9th really well, can you find the audio edit?

was really great. love the timing to the music in the edit.
Thanks Scott- Beethoven's known for his beats- ha ha!

I'm just pleased the banding doesn't seem to be a huge factor here... bring on the strobes!!!

Looks Amazing. the edit to the music is off the chain. Seems like ur having alot of fun with ur cam...and yeh i also thought the flash banding would be worse.

on a 24" Samsung 1920 x 1080 it looks good.
Not as good as a real good HD film on HD TV, but better than older films running on an HD channel.

Really cool! I'm amazed the lighting just seemed to flash at perfect times in the music. Crazy how nature works like that sometimes, you know?

(yes, I know this is edited)

Also, I searched for "Lighting Phantom" on YT and got a bunch of hits of a band called Phantom Lightning.

Erik- thanks for noticing the edit to music- I was trying to make it work without being too obvious.

Thanks, Chris and Bob!

jambredz- thanks man! Yeah having lots of fun, need to have more work- ha ha! Maybe the vid should be a Panasonic sample of "minimal flash banding..." Hmmm...

Thanks for watching, guys!
