Libec - Allex Slider

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see anything that is really special about this.

Price is nice at $216 for the head & $436 for the slider, but beyond that I'm not seeing anything that wows me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see anything that is really special about this.

It's just a solid slider from a manufacturer that we know that makes good products, for a competitive price. The sliding mechanism look great. I wonder if the drag affects the wheels directly by dampening them or is the drag only pressing on the chassis - which is not that good.

The bowl having a flat bottom with a female 3/8" is the biggest advantage.

I think nearly every Manfrotto head is naturally flat base. Any that have a 75mm bowl, the bowl is pretty much attached to the bottom.

Sachtler FSB heads all have 75mm bowls are a combo bowl / flat base. The thread sticking out the bottom is metric (M10 1.0 I believe), but you can unscrew that bolt & you have a 3/8" threaded hole if you use it as a flat base.

All of the Vinten Vision Blue heads ("regular" 3 & 5) all have the similar bowl / flat base thing going on too, but you can't take out the bolt like you can on Sachtler FSB heads. Further the bolt is a rare M10 1.0 but dual thread (like a candy cane), which means you're not going to find matching bolts or nuts at your corner hardware store. If you want something to work with Vinten, you need to make it custom.

Buyer beware though: read what happened to the metal finish after testing at NAB: http://www.dslrfilmnoob.com/2014/04/27/libec-allex-s-kit-slider-tripod-combo/

Ouch. Hope they get that figured out quickly.

I hope they have sorted the defective rails out ! i have one coming on Wednesday so will report back.

Looking forward to see your impressions about it

Will let you know Arturo hopefully all is well now as i did email Libec head office about the teething problems of the rails flaking paint at Nab and here was there response...

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your interest and pre-order. We are delighted to hear that.

To answer to your question, the rail part is now coated with a special material. Thus, paint won’t come off.

If you have any further questions/concerns, please let us know.

Best Regards,

Miwako Kuwahara

Yeah, that's kind of a fail. Any paint has the chance to chip and more importantly wear out - if you look at that post describing the problem, it sounds more like the slider material itself that's poor, not just the paint. We'll see. Awaiting the review!

Sorry for the late update....

It seems it was only the pre-production slider that was defective the production model i received has worked flawlessly from day one i am now 6 months in.... its a great piece of kit. You can buy with confidence !
