The AF100 just got a huge boost in recording time capability with the anticipated release of the first 128GB SDXC secure digital memory card from Lexar. With two SD slots for continuous recording, the AF100 can potentially record up to 24 hours on two 128GB SDXC cards in PH mode, with automatic clip spanning across the two cards.

I read the card will run about $700.00.

After I had 4 SDHC cards fail already in a span of one and a half years I will not use anything bigger then 16GB.

QFT. It's much too risky to have all of your footage on one card. I know several photographers who shoot on 1GB CF cards so if one fails they only lost the photos on that card and not the whole day.

This is especially true for the af100, because it can span two cards. So there isn't the same danger of "OMG, I'm gonna run out of space in the middle of a scene!" - as soon as a card fills up, you have the option of swapping in for a new one, and if for some reason you almost filled the card and are still going on a scene, it'll neatly span into the next one, and once done you can then swap it out... so you're covered. The only hassle in this is having to keep getting footage off multiple cards which can be a pain if you have a bunch of identical looking cards... but you just gotta tighten up your workflow, and it's not a big problem.

just a couple of thoughts about data storage and backup...

I think 64GB and above SDXC Class 10 cards are built to higher standards than mass-production 16GB SDHC cards, hence why they cost so much more.

I agree you should back up as often as possible, but I know you have greater odds of failure on one of four 16GB SDHC cards compared to a single 64GB card,
and especially Eight 16GB cards compared to a single 128GB Card. Also consider that you remove the 64GB+ media less often so it gets less wear and tear on it.
I have yet to remove my 64GB SDXC card once from the time I installed it in my GH2! It lasts the entire shooting day, plus I offload data during breaks.
I treat it like a day's worth of non-removeable onboard memory.

Depending on your shooting style, if you are squeemish about the eventual time of failure (all media eventually fails), simply use a spare 16GB card while
offloading the SDXC 64GB or 128GB footage regularly, which should sport faster transfer rates than most 16GB SDHC cards anyway...

And lastly, data recovery is always an option upon failure, though costly ( and I know, trust me... twice with mechanical hard drives and once with a cheap CompactFlash card).
