Letus35 Extreme

I agree about the lenses- unfortunately at this time the Letus does not offer a PL mount so you cannot attach a cinema lens. (I love working with those cinema lenses Zeiss / Cooke as they are VERY nice!) I am trying to get a hold of the Zeiss still lenses (they are nikon mounts), I have used them before and they make a big difference, as they are much better quality then the 50mm lens that I have.

True the Zeiss lenses are very nice. Sorry I didn't mean to poo poo your footage. Glad you understand what I was getting at.

I spent many hours with different setups with the M2 to get sharp edges and succeeded. The Brevis gives sharp edges out of the box ( well it did for me I must have a nicely aligned HVX200, so when I saw the soft edges on your footage it jumped straight out at me.

So, basically, while we love our friends from the other adapter manufacturers, um, the Le brothers are callin' you out. Y'all had better bring your "A" game, because this Letus Extreme has just served notice. Based on only my preliminary examination (and not on detailed testing, which I won't be able to get to for a couple of weeks) this thing is the RED One of adapters. It kicks the mini35 squarely in the teeth, at 1/10th the price. It's sharper and more light sensitive than the mini35. It's slick.

Is it perfect? Maybe not, but it's awfully close. (of course, as always, detailed testing may reveal some flaws or shortcomings that are not initially apparent; my comments here are based on my reasonably in-depth knowledge of the L35FE, and the Extreme being every bit as good in most ways and substantially, significantly better in other ways).

What could be better? Well, it could have a PL mount, I guess. The red power button could be mounted on the back instead of the front. An integrated rod support plate would be cool. And maybe they could make it fly, and spin straw into gold. Other than that, my first impression of it is that this is the real deal.

Well I think they can also improve on thier warranty length. most abapter around that price range gives a 1 year warranty. How come the Letus extreme still stays at 90 days. I belive in Barry when he said this is a solid piece of engineering . I'm sure the Le Brothers can back thier workmanship with a 1 year warranty rather then 90days when it sells for $1200 and later for $1500

The Letus35Extreme footage seen in this forum is way better than the Movietube footage and P+S technik.
Letus35Extreme is definetly the best 35adapter ever made.
I buy it, i want it, i need it i love it!!!!!!!

A cold shower could also help. :)

Actually I just bought TWO Letus Extremes for my company. So I guess I know what someday means.

poo poo my footage all you want- I can take it. :) And yes I understand what you were getting at. I am still working on getting the SLR Zeiss lenses, I have still not heard back from teh guy who owns them. (He has the whole line - and they are VERY nice.)

Great job on getting the M2 to be sharp- I never fully succeeded on the M2 that I had...

What's the big deal about flipping anyway? You still need to attach a 7" LCD to your rig to pull focus, and that is easy to hang upside down. The Brevis is light enough on the HVX to not even need rails with small-medium 35mm lenses. And with apps like AspectHD flipping footage during capture, that eliminates the need to process a flip in post. So is it really worth it to place such a premium on flipping?

1. Not everyone can afford an external monitor. I have one but I use my camera with the adapter quite a lot without it for grip and rip style shooting, particularly sports where a big rig is not practical or possible.

2. Not everyone can afford AspectHD.

Your scenario:
Brevis: $1200
External HD monitor: $1200 (of course this can be all over the map price-wise)
AspectHD: $500

Total Cost: $2900

My scenario:
Letus Extreme: $1200

Total cost: $1200

Now, I am being a bit of a smart ass with this reply but the basic point is made that there are many situations where shooting without a monitor is feasible with the Letus and there is no requirement to have extra software to process the flip or extra render time in your NLE to do the same.

Nah. $400-475 tops (including Israeli Arm) if you avoid the absurdly heavy Marshall.

Letus Extreme: $1200

Total cost: $1200
My premise is that one cannot effectively shoot with a 35mm adapter without an external LCD. So how does the Letus make this unnecessary and the Brevis does not?

Also you forgot to add the cost of rails to the Extreme, whereas the Brevis doesn't need it in many cases.

Having a flipped image is also a plus for beginners who are just starting out. If you are already fully stocked with external monitors / AspectHD / etc. then you have different considerations than someone who has a single camera and does run and gun events with limited or no crew. There are so many factors that determine what will work best for different situations that one cannot really argue either way.

When you work with clients and have to explain why the image is upside down... have to mount EVERY monitor that's viewing this footage directly from cam upside down... have to apply filters to all of your footage in post...

Then you ask yourself what the big deal is.

It's NOT just as easy as buying an external 7" LCD and mounting it upside down; there's an entire layer that you're ignoring.

To be fair... Brevis (achromat not included version, since it's not needed with the flip module) + flip module = probably around 1200. Official price on the flip module hasn't been announced yet, but estimated at around 300.

Not to get this off topic, but to use the Letus as you described without external monitoring (b/c there is a flip) costs about the same to do it with another adapter with the flip module.

Same cost... different products. Different options... both with the flip option though...

What's becoming a bit of worry for me (didn't think about this before) is the extra light loss with the flip module. has it been stated that there is no additional light loss?

The Letus EX claims (and seems to have proven) .5 stops AND flipped for the same price as the others.

Well, a little less right now. Til the promo is up.

I wasn't trying to get into the features, functionality difference between the two.. That's for another thread, and time when someone can compare the two directly.

I just wanted to clarify the supposed cost difference in the shooting scenario that Disjecta laid out.
