Letus35 Extreme

My understanding is that the Economy is still in development and they do not have a working version yet....soon, but not right now.
Hi everyone, this is Hien Le, the mastermind behind the Extreme :-)

The Letus35 Economy is ready to be shipped immediately. When we announce something, we have it. We do not pre-announce, that's has been our pattern up to this point. It may not be a good strategy for sales, but it is style :-). This doesn't mean that we can't promise on new things.

Thanks for the huge reception of the Letus35Extreme.

Hien

Hi Hien

Your the man!

I will definitely buy the Extreme. I was looking at the MovieTube JR at IBC two weeks ago and was just about to buy when the Extreme surfaced. So lucky me I guess.

Will there be a 82mm version that directly screws onto the HVX?

Peter

Okay, good...sorry I misspoke. :engel017:

Yes, 82mm version is available.
Really? Cool. I'm using an 82mm->72mm step-down ring.

As for the condensor lens -- what that should do, if I'm correct, is provide for very even light distribution and the complete elimination of any manner of hot-spot in the center and darkening at the corners. The original L35FE is very good even without the condensor lens, it has great light distribution (when properly zoomed in to the right field of view) but it's not absolutely flat and perfect. It's certainly close enough that I never was bothered by it.

But with the more light-transparent new ground glass of the Extreme, I don't doubt that the condensor became necessary. The brighter your ground glass, the more prone it is to hotspot/vignette; the condensor would counteract that and provide for even light distribution.

Of course, if I got this wrong, I hope that Hien will correct any misstatements!

Well even if you got it wrong, it sounds good!

Barry, you know what you are talking about :-)

82mm ring is available for those who order the Extreme as of today.

Thanks,

Hien

I just found out on their website that one can order the Extreme with 72mm or 82mm Thread Size. So I guess my question has been answered.

And now I will place an order.

Hien, what is the estimated ship delay on an Extreme order? Looks like you guys have your hands full with orders. Thanks.

OK I have just downloaded the zip file and looked at those images from Ryan.

Sorry but looking close I still see soft edges. I have a sharper edge to edge with my Brevis with HD achromat.

The new Letus looks good and the flip is a big plus, but those soft edges are still there for all to see.

I think that has more to do with the lens that i was using- the Nikon 50mm 1.8 that I have is not the highest quality lens, as it is a bit soft throught out the lens. I am in the process of securing some Ziess lenses to use for further testing. When I have those pictures up I'll post them.

AHHHHH I just got my Letus Flip yesterday!!! What to do... Someone tell me to spend more money. I guess in the end I'm buying light.

Ok thanks for the prompt reply Ryan. I have owned the Redrock and the Brevis. The redrock improved once we hardmounted, and the Brevis is so easy to use and straight away I got edge to edge sharpness with the HD achromat I kept over from Redrocks M2.

Looking at the clips and the stills, it reminded me of the M2 before it was hardmounted. Not bad but could be a lot better, and no where near the edge to edge of the Brevis. If you take a look at the clip with the bushes on the left, its very bad.

I will certainly keep my eye out for when you post footage with better lenses, but so far I haven't seen anything to want to make me open up my wallet and grab my card to order.
Perhaps Letus should have provided you with a set of cinema lenses, as yours was the first review out and if everyone had been blown away Letus would have a 6 month waiting list.

I don't mean to sound like a troll, and apologise if I am coming across that way, but I read a dozen pages of raving before taking a look at the charts and quicktime clips, to be completely underwhelmed.

I addressed the function of the condenser from Barry's comment, but forgot to mention that Letus35 Economy also has a condenser, but just of lower grade. That is the main difference on the optical part of the two.

Thanks,

Hien Le

I'm tired of not being a Senior member. I've been here since 2004! How many posts do I need? To much time stalking I guess.

I agree about the lenses- unfortunately at this time the Letus does not offer a PL mount so you cannot attach a cinema lens. (I love working with those cinema lenses Zeiss / Cooke as they are VERY nice!) I am trying to get a hold of the Zeiss still lenses (they are nikon mounts), I have used them before and they make a big difference, as they are much better quality then the 50mm lens that I have.
