Letus Ultimate - RELEASED!

And we always thought that Leetus was about us. That's why there is such a warm feeling for Letus products. We feel left behind, left hanging, even betrayed.

The main problem with us not being about to get that piece of equipment without bleeding inside is the consequential yet subtle message Letus is sending to us:

"LOOK AT THE PRICE DIFFERENTIAL AND YOU WILL KNOW THAT WHATEVER LETUS PRODUCT YOU BOUGHT FROM US BEFORE IS CRAP."

We felt so special that we'd found a company that would give us the best thing IN OUR LEAGUE for a price IN OUR LEAGUE!

I don't understand your reaction. You'd rather Letus never develop another product? The Extreme is still a great adapter. The Ultimate is better. Get the one you want!

Enough bitching already.

Man where are the P. Diddy No Bitchassness T-shirts? Oh there here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAlLBXm4Ygk ...i'm gonna get some for this thread. If you can't cop an Ultimate because its $4500 its all gravy...it means you're most likely like me...you don't make a living shooting moving images. You can tell who does...they always have the newest and freshest shoes for their camera. I like the Ultimates look and finish, I have an Extreme and a Brevis...and the Blade looks enticing. Oh snap did I just give you three choices....I sure did...and guess what there are more than that. NO BITCHASSNESS.

You can tell who makes a living by their work, not by how shiny their toys are. I know plenty of DPs who hardly own a thing. Others I know are still shooting with the DVX and there're turning down jobs. Its just gear heads who have to have the newest thing.

$359 = PL Mount
$349 = Optimization Kit
$49 = Support bracket,

Keep in mind these are all included with the "Ultimate"

In the end, the "Ultimate" is at a price tag of $3742

wait, that's still kinda expensive... don't know how i thought this through...

but look on the bright side, you're pretty much getting everything as a package and don't need to click on more stuff to add to cart (?)

I can name a few ASC's that own RED ONE's with credits that most of us will never see would say that comment is unfair and unjustified. However, sign me up for title of gear head cause I sure as hell just filled out the Pre-Order form for an HPX170.

God forbid that Letus should make a better product than the one they already make and charge more for it! We've had this debate before. If you can't afford it, then don't buy it; don't complain about it either. The market will sort itself out. Letus priced the Ultimate at $4500 because they believe there's a market for it; if nobody buys it, then the price will come down. The release of the Ultimate doesn't mean the Extreme all of a sudden becomes a bad product.

I'm talking about this board, and I don't mean gear heads. Yeah yeah yeah, I know that Claudio Miranda does not own a camera, neither does David Mullen etc etc. But guys like Phil Bloom, Tim Naylor, David Carstens, and my dawg Kholi Hicks are working DP's and their toys are part of their package.

Having just shot a feature on two Letus Extremes, and also having had the opportunity to use the Ultimate for pickup shots on the same feature, I like them both for what they are.

There is no doubt that the Ultimate is way sharper than the extreme. Don't know how or why but it is. If I was doing another movie on adapters I'd use two ultimates, no doubt in my mind whatsoever. A couple more pics of the unit are in my thread "Corrado" under user films.

Hey I don't mean to offend the gearheads. I'm one myself and spend way too much time geeking out on this forum. I'm not saying gearheads can't be excellent shooters, I'm just saying all DPs are not gearheads.

No argument here, but its kind of funny that the big dogs raised on film could care less about gear. And really care less about 35mm adapters. Perhaps more generational than anything... We're always waiting for the next leap in resolution, latitude etc.

Your league? I can't wait to get out of it. I have a LEX and I don't get a warm fuzzy feeling when I see how off center it is; how you still can't lose the grain beyond a 4.0; how it loses massive amounts of resolution that it's on par with SD or worse or how collimation is as involved as open heart surgery. But for 1200.00 it's an incredible piece of gear that paid itself off many times over. The pictures look great. I don't think anytime soon people will be holding it against you that you don't have an Ultimate, yet.

4500.00 for something that may very well blow the doors off PS Tech is a deal for me. At that price point, it's not a hobbyist toy but something you plan to make a living from. And once you take other people's money, they expect certain standards. 1200 is a much higher volume product. 4500 is not. This is a pro kit. The low volume doesn't make a cheap price possible. And get used to the technology game. Mac will make your new laptop feel obsolete and like "crap" every six months. Hein gave us a year on top with the LEX. All he did was set the bar higher. Though I secretly hope demand and a little competition pushes the price down. But until then I know the hype will make up that differential in immediate kit rentals.

You make it sound like Letus is on some greed trip. I'm sure if the demand and the cost structure were there for lower price you'd see it. But like I said, this caters to a smaller market than the Buffalo Nickel Collector's club.

Makes the rumored ($2000 or cheaper) SGBlade even more irresistible now.

Good job on the new rail mount. The old Ultimate rail mount is just doesn't work well at all. I agreed that If I want to pay $799 for new rail system, I rather go Zacuto.

?

Zacuto Baseplate 560
Extra Rods 70
Z riser 330

960.00 total.

Not sure if 160.00 difference is enough to dissuade me from Zacuto. I find it funny how people are discovering that if you want quality and performance it ends up costing. It really sheds some light on those who accused Zacuto in past posts of being overpriced when I thought for the price, customer service, build quality and performance, they were and still are one of the best deals in town. You got Arri/Chrosziel quality for half the price or less. I'd be curious to see how the new Letus rod/rail system matches up to Z's. Just based on the build and machining of my LEX, they may come up short. Can't wait to see one for real.

Funny, I seemed to remember that when the Extreme was first announced, someone commented that "The only thing Extreme about it is the price." Now at $1200 it's considered reasonable.

That's because people still confuse the market with P&S and everything else as being semi DIY, so they expect these guys to sell it at what they presume to be cost.

Zacuto is still way overpriced in my book, there are many more products out there that offers you far-far better price/performance ratio. Its your money, burn it anyway you so please, it aint not my business at all.

Has the price issue died yet? I know the horse has. Pretty much on the way to beating it.
