Hey everyone!
I just want to get us all excited about this fest! It seemed as if there was a little more excitement about the zombiefest, and I want this one to match it! I am sure we're getting closer and closer to the time we can view and vote on these great shorts and I'm excited! I hope you all are too! Let's make this the best dvxfest ever! :thumbsup:
 
Oh oh, first thing I noticed is that your "thumbsup" smiley didn't show up like you tried to type it. SHOOT! That was one of my favorite ones, too. :)

Some of the lack of buzz could be attributed to the following:
There's only about 60% entering as compared to Zombie Fest
It's the second well known DVXfest, so it's not the FRESH new cool thing (don't get me wrong, I love it, but it's not the FIRST one ever now that's caught everyone's attention)
All the server issues, lack of getting on the board, now previous threads not tracking, etc.

Just my initial thoughts. Otherwise, yep, I'm stoked, and will check here multiple times a day until I see we can begin viewing. (see if that one takes)

I think some of us are still recouperating from doing post

and then there were all these server issues so the whole site seems like its kind of a ghost town.

I'm all for the sis boom bah ... but how ... lead us ol' grand pubah of "rah".

I hear ya! Yeah, I'm excited about the fest as well... just hope it's felt by all here on dvxuser! :)

and the higest DVX celebs like hudson and disjecta aren't in this one.

EDIT: not that there's not plenty to be excited about, but those guys help garner buzz

Well, I hear ya my man Jack. It's been brutal. We can get excited about this thing, and communicate with our fellow dvxuser's and make sure they know what's going on! I am sure the J-man will put a big logo or announcement or something when it comes time to view and vote!
 
Hudson & Disjecta are sitting this one out? Anyone hear why? I just figured they were being quiet about it, then lay out an ace for us to view.
 
yeah -- there names aren't up there on the list.

I know John just had some time issues - last I talked to him, but was considering trying to get ahead with visual effects and props -- which is what I did, in theory at least.

As for disjecta -- I get the impression that while his family is very supportive, they'd rather go to the movies with their dad then give him up to them and he has to pick and choose his film battles. Might have also thought that scifi wouldn't play to his strengths on the lake -- making this one of the battles to pass up -- but all of this is purely specualtion on my part.

Will still be cool but not the same w/out them -- hopefuly they will be active watchers and feedback givers :attempted thumbsup:
 
The zombiefest buzz came from the genre. Sci-Fest will have to rely on the quality of the movies (and the neato of the special effects).
 
I'm much more psyched about the sci-fest actually. Sci-fi just seems like such a wide-open genre; whereas zombies... well let's just say that zombie movies in general aren't renowned for their uniqueness. Sort of the contrary actually.

But this brings up a good point-- and it's certainly jumping the gun-- but whilst we wait for these submissions to be viewable.... what's the next DVXfest going to be? It should be something logistically impossible so people come up with creative ways around it...
Courtroom drama?
Spagetti western?
Musical?
007?
Classical literature adaptation?
Maritime adventure?
Live-action comic?

I guess you should all be thankful that I have no say whatsoever in any way shape or form as to what the topic of any future contests here might be. :P

Neo-modern B&W self-indulgent subtitled pretentious 3-hour-minimum art film?

Jackpot.
 
im excited, This being the first one i got to enter. I been doing so much other work on other films and projects i wanted to work on this one becuase those prizes. I can't wait for the voting to start. I want to see them.
 
Sure there's a sense of 'hurry up and wait', but this one will be kick-ass too! 55 films! That's a whole lotta viewing! heh.

Why not a singing spaghetti western that stars James Bond (Brits have been in Westerns before....Erol Flynn (Robin Hood) starred in Dodge City (1939)), is based on a piece of classical literature that appeared in comic-book form, and involves a dispute over maritime law?
 
It's great to see you all excited about the films. I'm with spidey. This is the first dvxfest I was able to enter, and am real excited to see what other people came up with. I started getting involved at the tail end of Zombiefest.
 
I didn't get my zombie film finished in time, so this is my first entry too. The anticipation is killing me. This is also the first major clip I've posted on the forum so its kind of a double thrill for me.

I guess that sci-fi movies are usually harder to make and that's the reason why there were less movies. I also believe that there should be a special prize for non-dvx100 cameras because I do believe more people would participate and spread the news. I've talked to many friends and they thought about getting into the contest but the lack of prizes for them drove them away ( I guess people think too much about prizes ). I truely believe it's going to be a great contest, with lots of good movies for us to see !!!! I just hope we can begin to watch all of them soon.
