Now i have my 100-400mm with me finaly i find i am getting more reach than i expected,i thought at full zoom in video i would get 925mm as the crop is 2.3x but i am getting over 100mm,i have tested it with my FZ1000 in i zoom to show this also my GH4 with the 100-400 has more reach than my HC-X1000 with a 1.5x extender screwd in 937mm.:shocked:

For UHD the crop is 2.5x. I'm also not sure who the heck ever came up with 2.3x because no amount of math can ever come up with 2.3x and sadly that number is plastered all over the internet as if it is fact.
With a 2.5x crop your zoom would be 1000mm.

The marked focal lengths on lenses are not always precise. If the engineering department settled on a 397mm or 403mm (these are arbitrary examples, btw) focal length for the long end of the zoom, the marketing department are still going to call it a "400mm" lens. The differences can be even more pronounced when combined with focus breathing issues.
When you then convert those focal length numbers into 35mm equivelant terms as you have done, you introduce further distortions because not all sensors are precisely equal to their stated format size and crop factor. These differences might be barely perceptible when we're talking about a 16mm lens, but moving into super-telephoto territory, it can easily be 100m off when converted to 35mm terms.

The FZ1000 which is very sharp on wide angle does not resolve as much as the GH4 and HC-X1000 at its max 592mm,the HD cam shows the difference between 4K and HD.The HC-X1000 with a 1.5 extender 937mm clearly resolves as much and a little better viewed on my 55" tv as the GH4 with 100-400mm lens at the same length,
