GH2 Lens questions and recommendations sought...

Hi all,

I've just recently acquired a GH2 and I'm trying to figure out my lens options. I currently have the 14-42 - an ok lens to learn the camera with, but I really need something better. That said, in my searching I've become a little confused on my options.

I know there is a 4/3 to m4/3 adapter, but does it maintain the ability to focus, control iris, ois with the adapter? That said, are all (m)4/3 lenses compatible with any camera that supports a (m)4/3 mount or is control circuitry different enough where one still has to make sure they get a lens destined for a specific manufacturer?

I have a few pieces of Nikon glass still floating around (nothing to write home about, but might as well try them since I have them) - can anyone suggest a good quality adapter? I know I'll loose auto focus.

Now, I'd like to also locate a decent zoom (one with relatively smooth action, or at least a lot smoother then the 14-42:) for video (between 14 and 20 on the wide and 100-150 on the tele) with a f-stop of around 2.8 (not the 14-140 lens as I need better low light)- preferably one that will work with the AF of the camera. Anyone have any suggestions that would fit those requirements?

I do plan to get some primes in the future; right now I just need something to hold me over as I wrap my head around compatibilities with this camera.

Thanks!

There's really only a few lenses (all lumix) that will do autofocus on the gh2. If you can help it, it's probably best not to get to dependent on them if you want to use something better. Here is the cheap adapter I use for my Nikon lenses >>

It's cheap and works pretty good overall, no complaints. Using whatever Nikon glass you have, will undoubtedly be better than suffering with the 14-42!

Haha! Thanks for the info.

I too would prefer to not get dependent on them (AF lenses), but there are a few shooting situations where it would help to have it (one of the things I need to capture on a regular basis (every 3 months) usually has me doing several other things at the same time so having AF for it would be nice since on occasion I have to let someone else re-aim the camera that might not be aware of how to focus...). Interviews and pre-set shots I could care less on the AF... It's just that one regular event where I'd need to turn the camera into more of an ENG camcorder so I can sell my other camcorder to help pay for this GH2 :D
