Hi I have a 7d and use a few different brand lens. I have a AF-S Nikon DX 35mm f/1.8G that does NOT work with the adapter i have. Does the adapter need to be different or is it just that lens with the 7d is not compatible? Also, is there a site that lists what kinds of lens work with certain kinds of adapters?

What do you mean by "does not work"? no autofocus? or auto aperture?

only lenses that are designed for EOS cameras will work with EOS cameras with autofocus and aperture

For any Nikon G lens you'll need an adaptor that also allows you to control the aperture. They're a bit harder to find and cost a few more dollars but are your only option for using lenses which don't have an aperture ring.

The Novoflex is the only adapter I know of:

However, autofocus and VF don't work. You get manual focus with an autoconfirm and control of the aperture. Also, you have to remove the weatherproofing on the Nikon G lens.

If you want to use Nikon, best bet is older, manual focus only AI or Nikkor-S lenses.

+1.

Using lenses interchangeably is a great option, as long as you aren't looking at modern lenses.
