Lens adapters for AF100

Not a comprehensive list, but I just browsed through ebay to see what lens adapters are currently available for the AF100. Here's what I came up with. Note that some may be duplicates. In any case, there's a pretty wide selection of adapters already available... (and, of course, all these adapters will also work on the GH1 and GH2 as well).

Nikon F-mount (normal Nikon SLR lenses)
Nikon G (Nikon lenses that don't have aperture rings; these adapters have the ability to adjust the aperture on the lens)
Nikon S-mount (used on rangefinder cameras)

PL mount (modern professional cinema lens mount)
Panavision (modern professional cinema lens mount)
c-mount (commonly used on 16mm movie cameras and security cameras)
Arri Standard (cinema lens mount for older cinema lenses)
Arri Bayonet (newer version of Arri Standard, and the precursor for Arri PL)
Konvas OCT-18 (Russian cinema lens mount)
BNCR (old cinema lens mount)
Aaton (cinema lens mount)
Eclair CA-1 (cinema lens mount)

M42 (also known as "Pentax Screwmount" or "Universal Screwmount")
M39 (used with Leica rangefinders and projector lenses)
Pentax K-mount

Canon FD (older Canon SLR lens mount)
Canon EOS EF (modern Canon SLR lens mount, includes EF-S lenses)
Pentacon 6 (medium-format lenses)

Praktica/Prakticar PB
Rollei QB
Rollei SL35

Olympus OM
Minolta MD
Tamron AD2
Konica AR
Olympus Pen F
Leica M
Leica R
Konica Hexanon
Contarex
Sony Alpha
Sony Minolta MA
Exakta
Contax G
Contax RF
Contax/Yashica CY
Pentax 110
T-mount
T2
Retina Xenar
Topcon Topcor
Tamron Adaptall
Alpa
Alpa adapter with tilt/shift capability
Voigtlander DKL

Four Thirds (full-sized four thirds, SLR lenses from Panasonic & Olympus)

B4 (the standard for modern 2/3" video camera bayonet lens)

62mm macro reversing ring mount

Barry, any Nikon F mounts that can use the electronic info from Nikon or Zeiss ZF.2 lenses? Or are they all just mechanical only mounts. Thanks!

I don't know of any electrical-translating Nikon mounts yet. I believe Birger will probably build one once they get their Canon one done.

I am not a Panasonic user and don't have an interest in the AF-100 (although my school does), so I just have one question, although it might be ludicrous to a follower of the AF-100 or M43 camera users.

Nikon S-mount (used on rangefinder cameras)

Why?

Could you actually use rangefinder lenses on these cameras for cinema?

Wow! Barry, where did you find the Arri and C mount adaptors?
Just do an ebay search for "GH1 adapter", and sort through all that comes up. I think I got 900+ hits.

C-mount has been around forever, I've had one on my GH1 for a year. Arri S seems newer to me. Wish there was an Arri Bayonet mount; I have no doubt one will be forthcoming.

Does anybody know what the official story is on the hotrod pl adapter? I heard that they weren't releasing it yet because they're making some kind of additional support for the mount or something like that.

I heard that HotRod Cameras will have a nice Package of Support stuff available by the time the AF-100 ships.

The existing Hot Rod M4/3 PL part will work with the AF-100 - in fact panasonic had one on the prototype in the showcase at NAB and IBC.

I'm pretty sure they still sell the HotRod M4/3 PL directly through the website or at Abel Cine and maybe even B and H.

Got this one in the mail yesterday. Solid, well built and mounts to FD lenses perfectly, like a camera body would. Full control of aperture - lens can be stopped down. Best of all $26!

ebay FD to m4/3 adapter

(note: as I don't have a GH1 or a m4/3 camera for the matter I haven't been able to fully test this lens adapter.)

How much should we expect to spend on a lens mount? Can you get away with a cheap (inexpensive) eBay mount for $26. Or should you purchase something like a Novoflex or Voightlander for around $200? Will there be a big difference seeing as it is just an adaptor, or will the cheap one be, well, cheap? I have some Zeiss lens with F Bayonet Mounts.

There are as many options as you have budget. You can use the eBay adapters, and for the most part, they seem to work fine. You can spend $200 or more and get the Novoflex or CameraQuest Adapters. I've never heard a bad word about those, other than about the price. :D

Personally, I chose the mid-range Cinevate Nikon to EOS adapters to mount my Zeiss ZF glass on the 5DII, and so far so good.

Question about these adapters.

Are they all created to replicate the lens to sensor distance of their native body equivalents? In other words, when I mount Nikon glass on the AF100 using an adapter, will it still focus like a normal Nikon lens? Or will all the focus indicators be off, with the risk of losing infinity?

Thanks.

Any properly-engineered adapter should retain infinity focus. There might be cheap junk on the market that wouldn't, but ... I mean, anything that's made by a reputable company should retain infinity.

I'm thinking of putting some Zeiss contax mount lenses on a 101. We’ve got access to contax to ef adapters, and the 101 we hire will be shipped with an ef to micro-4/3 adapter. Can we put one adapter on the other to go contaxt–>EF–>EF–>micro-4/3 ? Can you put an adapter on an adapter and still have the glass work as normal?

Intuitively my brain tells me yes, but it would be an expensive mistake if not…

I have a vast collection of C/Y mount Zeiss lenses that I have been using the last couple of years with EF adapters on all my Canon mount stuff. In my experience using a pair of adapters on the AF100/101 can introduce a little play into the situation. My advice would be to purchase a high quality C/Y to M4/3 adapter and mount the lenses directly to eleminate any chance of play. If you need to use your Canon EF mount lenses just take 10 seconds to switch lens mount adapters.

All the Best!

Dave

Thanks Dave. That's really useful advice. I'm slightly loathe to buy a new adapter though as the Zeiss lenses aren't my companies and we'll only be using them for one week.... maybe I should suck it up though and fork out.

Does anyone else have any tips/experience using two adapters at once?
