LEAP (An End Times Feature)

The all nighter thing seems to be working. I now have about 16 minutes left to cut. If I can keep the pace I've been working at, it should only take me four hours. Yes, I cut that fast. Get over it. =) But seriously, it feels great to know that I'll be caught up. My producer has ordered two $900 mics, two stands, and a mixer for ADR purposes. With the new equipment, I'll be able to adopt a more "industry standard" workflow, meaning, that the ADR will be synced as soon as we're done recording, rather than me having to sync it at a later time. I'm super stoked for that! So yeah, we're still on track for a Thanksgiving premiere, and having DVD's for everyone in time for the holidays. =)

Due to seeing some friends tonight, I got a late start and didn't start cutting until 2am. It's now 5am and I finished the rough cut (for the second time mind you). Now I'm off to bed. Tomorrow (well, tonight, I guess, but tomorrow for me) I'm going to get some scoring done. Then it's cc'ing, and by then the audio mixer should be here so I can start ADR. The $900 mics came in today, so that's exciting!

We are seeking distribution for our upcoming film, would you mind if I asked whom you are talking with? Thanks and good luck.

So I'm really excited right now. My producer brought over the new mics today. The setup is pretty sweet. I got a pic that I'll post later. We should have the mixer in early next week which means I can then start ADR. But here's what I'm excited about: on all my past films, when I did ADR for the entire film like I am now, I had to hook my mic up to the camera and record the audio with black video, then separate it later. This meant that I had to hope the dialouge matched and then spend a long time syncing it up after the actor left. Syncing on Wulf took me about a month, because I had to screw with the takes and sometimes re-edit to make a line of dialouge match. With the new setup that I'll have, I can record straight to the Vegas timeline, meaning that I can record a take and try to match it up instantly. If it matches, we move on, if not, we do it again. When the ADR session is over, the ADR will already be synced, allowing me to actually have the film done in time for the holidays!

That sounds like a bad, bad way to do ADR, maybe someone can help you out on this board with a good way to do it?

You know, I never saw the trailer for this. And why no photos and such from the shoot. We like that stuff.

Can you elaborate? I've been doing ADR for six years on my projects, and this seems to be the best way I've done it yet.

The teasers and photos are on my site at starspictures.ning.com
I'm going to be cutting a real trailer after I finish the the ADR and Sound FX. I'm also going to be adding some more pics soon.

I liked the dialogue in the trailer (I know it's just a teaser). I hope you keep that. I would've liked to here the dialogue stop after the 666 part, some hard music blast as we see him being chased and outwitting his attackers using his parkour (and martial arts if any are in this film) skills. I mean this really is the movie. The the trailer ends with him on the house saying the full circle line. By the way, too many shots of him jumping over that not so interesting bar. This is the trailer for my "endtimes" film. It was my first. Knowing the editing and shooting tricks I know today, I could've make this look so much better. I may remake it some day:

If I were making leap, where I have the action come in, I would have cops and armed guard constantly coming at him and him escaping them by doing things they can't do. Here's an example (I may have shown you this before, but I don't see it. Click on the "I agree"):

I'd love for the "Leap" trailer to look like the B13 trailer above (even if the action isn't so over the top). You have to come correct with the pakour action, but I think you can do it. A little greenscreen can help too.

The concept is grand and the narration is powerful, but the images are meaningless. Someone leaping and leaping. Ok, the title is Leap, but why not put something more into it.

I mean to encourage you to make a significant movie, even a great movie (if you're lucky or end up with a lot of money), but I would be lying if I said I was excited by the two trailers.

The website BTW is very good. Keep up the good work and good luck.

Thanks for checking it out guys, let me just clear up a few things. First, it is a teaser. It is not a representation of the film. In my mind, there's teasers, and then there's typical trailers (theatrical). A teaser to me, doesn't have much to do with the actual film. They usually have some library music, some titles, and maybe a voice over. My lead actor and I shot and cut the thing in a few hours PRIOR to shooting. The idea was to get the other actors excited. There are some similar shots in the actual film (namely the roof), and most of the dialogue is there, but spoken by different people. The second one I made as an effects test. I figured, "why not make another teaser out of it?" Once I do the ADR and sound effects, I'll be able to cut a typical trailer, the kind that is actually supposed to get people excited. That uses actual clips from the film, and is cut like a mainstream trailer. But thanks for your input and checking it out! =)

Cool. Because I want to see more films like this coming out. I get excited seeing someone go in a new direction. The scene where the guy jump off the house (is that you?) is pretty tight with the narration. I think I may be jealous when this film is done. Have you checked out Video Copilot? If not, do so when you get the chance.

The guy jumping off the school is actually the lead actor. All my actors worked very hard with me for a month and a half to be able to do their own stunts. I did however manage to get me doing pk into the film. There a scene where the group is looking up some vids online. They're watching me. Also, during the end credits, rather than putting up bloopers on one side of the screen, I compiled a "Best of El" reel and stuck that in instead. =) Haven't check out Video Copiolot yet. I'll do that here shortly. Thanks man!

a teaser trailer builds hype around your film. A teaser should reveal the essence of your film's story and it should also hint at the style and look of your film. A teaser must make the viewer say "holy crap...I gotta see this" or "Holy crap...I wanna see more"

Teasers should be made with respect for your film.

Teasers are a golden opportunity and should not be trivialized or thought of as lesser entity's.

Teasers are vital to the overall success of your film

I think we'll have to agree to disagree here.I believe actual trailers are more important than teasers. I've seen many movies where the teaser leaves me indifferent, but the real trailer makes me want to see the picture. I see teasers more of an announcement that a certain film will be coming out eventually. In my case, my teasers were just to excite the cast and get them to have some faith in me as a filmmaker, as I refused to show them my first feature. It worked, and now I'm mixing sound for a very good looking movie.
