Lcdvf

Yeah, I read that. That's puzziling because he talks about how great the Hoodman was in a different review months ago. I don't know what to make of it.

That's not the first time he's recommended something that sucked. I can't be happier with my LCDVF. With 2x magnification, I can't see how the Z-Finder's 3x can be of any help at all, and the magnet mount is perfect for taking off easily.

Worried

I was going to purchase one of these but I'm worried about the lack of diopter. I have to wear reading glasses of slight magnification close up, my reading glasses are about 2x. I don't want to have to wear glasses while looking through this thing so I'm a bit concerned if it will work for me. Anyone have similar vision that could tell me their experience?

BTW ...ALL of you will have this issue once you get to your mid forties so just remember that. ( I had perfect vision) :(

i agree completely and for me the diopter for me is very important. ill never outgrow it either.

i read a comment that steve from Zacuto made on a blog discussion/response a bit back about a Zfinder jr that will be coming out in the near future. my impression was that it will be like the Zfinder but **NOT** have the diopter. they will use mounting brackets that are supposed to have differenent heights that will correct for peoples vision imperfections. sounds like it might be a little hit and miss on finding the correct bracket to match your vision but at least there will be some compensation for imperfect vision. was stated to be about half the price of the Zfinder's $400.

i used the Hoodman before i got the Zfinder. for me 3X feels very good. with that said i would suspect that the 2X on the LCDVF would feel equally good. the hoodman with only a 1-1 though is much less effective...at least for me it is compared to the 3X.

Just got word via twitter that the Z-finder jr. won't be coming out til mid March to April, so I just tried to place an order through jag35.com for the LCDVF and the are currently sold out.

Agreed the LCDVF is an awesome product. I had the hoodman, which was not great, the rubber band mount was pretty crappy to begin with, and unless you pruchased the rather expensive RedRock mounting plate it would slide al over the place, added to that the lack of magnification meant I was still unsure of focus sometimes, and many times if there wasn't too much light around I ended up just taking the hoodman off and using the LCD naked as it as easier. Ordered the LCDVF and wow, the magnet is strong, the eye piece if super comfortable with the extra soft eyecup they give you and the 2x magnification is spot on, would I like 3x like the Zacuto, probably, but for my rig in particular the extra length of the LCDVF compared the the shortness of the Zacuto meant that the LCDVF was a better fit. Build quality is very high, only change I made was to attach a short safety cable to the eyepiece attached to the camera strap eyelet of the camera, for that just in case scenario if the magnet doesn't hold the eyepiece and I am not looking and lose it. Otherwise 100% positive on it. I ordered mine from http://jag35.com/ and it arrived here in Australia within a couple of weeks.

I guess they weren't kidding when they told me they only had 3 left and that was only last tuesday on the 2nd.
I'm expecting mine to arrive on Monday.

I bought one based on recommendations, and I'm very pleased. I own other Zacuto gear, but for me I'm not completely confident that the next generation of cameras won't squeeze in larger screens. Since that might happen I don't want to spend any more than needed. I have good eyesight, and by the time my eyes go bad I'm sure we'll be on to 5" screens.

I got impatient and ponied up for the Z-Finder. B&H has it for $25 less than the zacuto site, it comes with a free on-camera 35 watt LED light, and it doesn't have the extra 5-7 day lead time that is currently on z-finder orders directly from zacuto.

I've bought enough cheap gear trying to get by on a budget that I'm finally tired of having to buy twice, so I just got the Z-finder (and a rapid fire).

anybody wearing glasses ever thought of getting laser eye surgery? When vision is so important in what we do, I'd expect the expense would be a small price to pay for fixing your most important tool.

Received my LCDVF this morning. Just as with the majority of reviews, it's about as perfect as you can get for what it does.
Crystal clear magnification and the magnet mount is awesome. Feels more comfortable as a viewfinder than anything I've ever used on any camera.
Feels solidly built but its also lightweight so it doesn't add unnecessary bulk to the rear end. My only issue with it is the lanyard could be more comfortable. It scratches my neck and is made out of that god awful polyester weave stuff.

Agreed.

Add to the fact that mine came all the way from Estonia in less than a week.

I did some pre-lim tests to see how much it helps for stabilization purposes.

Or you can wear contacts, which is what I do.

I wear glasses and the LCDVF works fine for me

To clarify - Are you saying that you keep the glasses on and still use the LCDVF and that it's comfortable to do so? I'm a +2 prescription, but am interested in the LCDVF.

Does anybody in San Diego have an LCDVF? I just got a Z-Finder and would love to compare the two before I glue the Z-Finder on and nullify the return policy.
