I think info on this LCD loupe is scattered so I though I'd start a thread with a clear name.

It has been shipping for a few weeks now. Has anyone gotten one yet?

I am considering getting it over the Z-Finder but I first want to make sure the "magnetic mounting interface" works well. My concern is that it might not be sturdy enough and might come off mid-shot, but they claim it is very strong.

I asked them and was told they had 500 units ready for initial shipment. I might not be remembering correctly, so don't quote me. However, if that is correct we should have a few of those here at DVXuser.

Magnetic interface works perfectly on actual version. First, didn't. Came off too easily. I Didn't try Zacuto, I will in a week or so, but I can very clearly see where focus plane is with LCDVF, and that is what I needed for primarily. Strong mount, strong build.
Only downside, often a bit of humidity set up between eye and ocular. I have to solve this, but not a really major problem. Also, you have to have good eyes as there's no diopter correction

You wouldn't happen to be the manufacturer, would you? :)

Would you be worried about it coming of if you were pressing the camera hard against your face at any point? Or is it really that strong and safe of a mount? Would it ever be a problem?

Also, you have to have good eyes as there's no diopter correction

Do you have to be able to focus on the LCD as if nothing were there? I am sure that can't be the case. What is the equivalent focusing distance for your eye?

No. But for sure I like the way Tonis (the manufacturer) stand passionately behind his vf.
First batch wasn't completely ok. He sent ALL original customers (100?200?) the newer version for free, just because he wasn't happy for the product we had. And now he is happy, as I am.
Z-finder is better? I hope so! I'll try one in a week or so as a friend of mine needed diopter correction. I didn't and I liked the idea of a vf coming (cheaper also) from Estonia, very exotic as it's one of the few places in Europe I never visited yet..

I press the camera hard against my face all the time. I told you, strong enough not to come off unwanted

I'm not sure I understand this. I like very much 5D 7D lcd's and my eyes are 10/10. A friend of mine who wears glasses (the one who ordered Z-finder) couldn't see clearly in lcdvf.
Cheers

Hey, I have the LCDVF v1.0 pre order production unit. I think its great but had its initial problems.

For me, its magnetism was weak and body plastic was too soft. But the manufacturer has addressed these issues with stronger magnets and harder plastics for a more stronger/robust unit.

I modified my VF,added more magnets and its strong now. I can hold up the weight of my camera by just the VF. Optics are great, clear, focus is amazing to shoot with. But, no diopter, you need good eyes. I use glasses too, I don't find it that much of a problem using it. As long as your glasses aren't huge ones.

Apparently its sold out at the moment. But the owner is trying to rollout all that bought on and assures me that hopefully in the next week or two. (cross my fingers) So until then, maybe a few weeks store will be taking new orders soon.

I can't compare it to Zfinder, but if you need diopters, thats the way to go, but pricey. If you don't need diopter, LCDVF is the best out there and price wise, nobody can be that too. Shooting with one of these is just great. A definite must have with video.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Dave.

I've been trying to decide between these three view finders (IDC, LCDVF & Z Finder) and am leaning toward the IDC http://www.idcphotography.com/kart/index.php?p=product&id=122&parent=26

For $449 it has a follow focus as well. It uses a Hoodman view finder. The glass is german and it has a diopter adjustment. The Hoodman is not magnified, but using my 4X loop, I'm not sure magnification is a good thing. It's very pixalated. The Z finder might be better as it is 3X magnification. The IDC also has the best attachment method, IMO. It just seems like the all around best value and quality.

I received my LCDVF yesterday and LOVE it! Tried the Hoodman and it sucked. The LCDVF is much better...more comfortable, better focus control, and better design. The magnets work very well and holds without concern.

If you are wondering what to buy and can't afford the Z-Finder, the LCDVF is a no-brainer!

Just trying to get a better handle on your "Hoodman sucked comment" Were you using the rubber band method that Hoodman and you thought that sucked. As far as being uncomfortable, they also have a different eye cup as well.

Better focus control? Were you able to focus with the Hoodman? What did you think of the 1 to 1 ratio (lack of magnification) of the Hoodman?

With the LCDVF, can you see the pixels on the screen? I'm also concerned about the lack of a diopter adjustment.

The Hoodman's zero magnification was the big factor to me. Yeah it's nice to see the screen closer, but I still need to see it bigger. I don't notice pixels at all with the LCDVF.

I only used the Hoodman once. It was a friend of mine's and he was in town so I tested it out. I wasn't impressed. He had the rubber band attachment and standard eye cup. It helped a little, but not even close to as much as the LCDVF.

I don't have glasses so I can't tell you how much not having a diopter is a problem. The LCDVF is everything I need at a price I can afford.

I thought the LCDVF was supposed to be x2.3

Does the lens help you focus even if just a little easier than it would be to focus on the screen at that short of a distance?

I hope this doesn't sound too stupid, but what's a "diopter" ?

It's a focus wheel on the view finder that will focus on the LCD screen. You may or not need one depending on how good your eye site is. Your camera has one for its optical view finder.
