Maybe I've just been listening to audio that's being produced by those who are more elite, but would you (or Alex) say the 11D is better?
Maybe it's because I know consciously what's going on above from you sharing, but the COS-11D just sounds so much better to me there.

Yep. Part of that may be placement, but the B3 definitely has a little more midrange to it and the COS-11D is a little more crisp.
The contrast between the two mics is easy to hear. Was the B-3 eq'd at all to try and match the Sanken?
The best 'proximity' omni lav mic I have used is the ECM-55, unfortunately it is HUGE by today's standards.
