so i got my hvx200 a while back and, of course, now there are 1000 new models out there.

im just getting ramped up on P2 and now there is SDHC, AG-HMC150...etc...

what is the latest greatest?

Ask again next week, as the answer will have changed...

The HMC150 is aimed at the prosumer level, the HVX200 is aimed at the professional/broadcaster. The HPX300 is the "latest/greatest", a full-size interchangeable lens shoulder-mount camera with 10-bit 4:2:2 AVC-Intra recording.

Basically you can rank them by price point: HMC150 = ~$3500, HPX170 (newest/latest/greatest version of the HVX200) = ~$5000, HPX300 = ~$8500.

is it reasonable to think that getting the HMC150 as a second cam to the HVX200 might be helpful in that it would enable me to use less expensive media than P2 and give exact same quality of video?

and I could use same media with other cams...like Canon?

You will not get the exact same quality of video. The 150 is good, but the 200 is better. Better color, more robust codec. There's a reason why there's more than one model. :)

what about compared to the difference between the HVX and the HX1 (which I am using now). Would i be getting better, worse or same (with the HVX/HMC150 combo)?

Do you mean the Sony still camera? Never seen any footage from it to compare. But looking at the specs, the same thing pops out -- the color sampling and codec robustness are going to be better on the 200. Plus, no 24 fps.

But, like I said, I've never seen any footage from it.

I might argue that the greatest P2 camera is the dual-link HPX3700. :)

But, consider the jump in pricepoint between that VariCam and the very accessible HPX300 - also 10-bit, full-raster HD recording, scan-reversing and on and on.

Admittedly, the 300 does all this using the 3MOS 1/3 sensors instead of the CCD 2/3 imagers found on the 3700.

A pretty amazing lump that we quickly talked ourselves into after a short procrastination.

Im sorry, I meant the Canon XHA1 (or HV30...basically, 30P HDV)
