Las Vegas Strip at 2fps

barry,

how fast were you going on the freeway? did you use a plastic shield or anything in front of the camera (besides a uv filter)? i had borrowed a friend's suction car mount a while back and stuck it on the hood and shot with a GL1 doing about 40 mph - and that made me nervous as hell. i've been wanting to do the same with the HVX...

Barry, that was way hella cool. Seriously neat footage!

I think you almsot reached Jetpack mode in a few of those shots...

How fast were you going past Stardust?

Very smooth footage. It's sort of rare to see such clear footage at that speed. It reminded me of how my wife drove in normal 60p before they revoked her drivers license.

that was cool, god i love the HVX colours.....the only problem with that demo was that i got stressed out when you were waiting to take that left at the light

C'MON TRAFFIC MOVE DAMN IT! haha rooooad rage

Very nice!

Makes me want to go back to Las Vegas with the HVX. I have a brother and sister that still live there. Maybe it is time for a visit.

Barry-

That footage was crystal clear and gorgeous but it stressed me out. I thought for sure I was going to get into a fender bender. Especially when we were creeping up on that Corvette.

But, GOD I miss Vegas!

Wasn't going very fast, maybe 70 on the freeway, maybe 90 down the strip (er, no, I mean around 40). That 2fps makes everything seem so ultra fast.

And if you were stressed out waiting for that light to change at Flamingo, think of how irritating it was LIVE. Waited through three light changes, I think it took eight solid minutes to get past that one light!

As for mounting, it was strapped into a CineSaddle. For lens protection, an 82mm B+W MRC Haze filter.

At one point I realized it was grossly overexposed (the freeway is a lot less lit-up than the strip, obviously) so I put it in park (in the middle of waiting for that Flamingo light) and jumped out and crawled up on the roof to adjust the exposure. I'm sure that looked a little weird to the other drivers...

And yes, this was all with the 350d shutter. It was pretty cool to put it in 2fps mode on my two 4GB cards and see it saying "247 minutes recording time available"...

Hey guys, now that we know where he lives, why don't we invite ourselves over every weekend and make him teach us about the hvx. I'll bring the doughnuts.

Sounds like a NAB '07 party to me...

Little do we know, that's not actually Barry's house, but a [insert shady place here]
