Lamborghini Gallardo

I'm not saying to make it a narrative piece, ignore Jeremy Clarkson, focus on the shots of the car, the editing style, color correction, audio of the car etc. that's what I'm saying.

Here is a link to the DIY Zaza slider, it's perfect for car videos, you can order the rail up to (i think) 8 feet. It's great for dslr, you can flip it upside down and have the camera slide over the car looking down, all sorts of uses for cars.

It's your video and you should make it how you want but when you see a lambo driving 30 mph with no engine sounds it is kind of a buzz kill. Reminds me of the Chris Rock video - there is no sex in the champaign room.

Here's an example of a completely different way to think of a car advert: Boxter
The narration totally ruined that video for me. While images worked on subconscious level, the narration tried to hit the idea of "Porshaaa! Boxter!" into my brain with four-inch nails. Nah. This does not work for me, sorry. Too much effort.

As to car commercials, these were pretty funny:

Chuck, the best episode of Top Gear (all cars aside)for cinematography, editing, scoring etc. is the Veyron episode where they top it out at 253 mph on the German test track. $1.3M budget for that episode.

Thanks for the link. Hey we could only shoot it to 40, doesn't mean that's how we drive it...

Its funny, but I don't get it, I'm not even sure what car their advertising?

i must have been one of the only people who actually got it. he wasnt trying to be top gear or fifth gear so i duno why those comparisons and suggestions to "spice" it up in that way are really given. Nowhere here did i see him trying to be that (and i watch top gear alot also). I saw it for what it was, accepted it and enjoyed most of it. Its pretty long, pacing 2 slow, and the music isnt for me ...but it looked good. I didnt want it to turn into top gear. Now if he had tried to emlulate that look and he fell flat on his face and failed then i could see the need for those comparisons.

Thanks jambredz.

Its kind of an interesting thing, most people want video's about these cars to convey power and speed. I understand and accept that, but most people will never own or drive one so its how they perceive it should be. But once you get past all of that, takes about a week, then its just mind numbing delirious fun.

Its truly a work of art. You tune out all the idiots that want to race or pull up alongside for a better look and you just settle into the car and the feeling is quite indescribable. Which is my problem. I lack the necessary skills to produce a video that communicates that.

I'm going to produce more car videos, here's a start to one that I posted earlier of a 68 Camaro

I'm simply trying to combine my passion for cars, photography and aviation - I'm hoping to fly a 7D in the near future, and strike the right balance between them [I'm doing this as a hobby]. This is one of three forums that I turn to for advice and inspiration and if people make the sort of comparisons you mentioned then I figure I have not hit on the right balance yet.

I'll stop short of calling this art, but I really appreciate that you see and accept what I'm trying to do. If the criticism gets too much to take I'll just jump in the car and haul ass :cheesy:

One way to make these, how should I say it - more interesting, I'm just going to cut through the crap and add naked women.

I watched bits and pieces of it. I popped on the page to take a look to see what someone was saying about the Gallardo, and the spyder at that. (My dream car, until I saw the new concept model for the Porsche 918 Spyder.)

I didn't watch all the way through, I skipped around. But this seemed more of an appreciation of the car, which is why I don't have many bad things to say. I would have liked to hear the car though. The bark the Gallardo has is easily the sexiest noise I've heard from a production car. It's my biggest turn on to the car, that and the fact it is a gorgeous vehicle. There are a lot of them driving around in Beverly Hills. Though mostly black or white.

As per the "real lambo commercial". Nice attempt, but I don't like when people tell others "this is what a real 'x' should be" and produce a sub-par result as the ultimate example.

But as per the original video. Nice work. Makes me a little jealous, I'd love to drive one of those around for a day. Or even have the 220k to drop on such a car. Good for you though.

maybe to mix both top gear and easy street is that u could start it off like that...engine roaring fast passed haul ass fun...then be like..."what now"? then have the chillin' kinda vibe. I def think i could pull that off in a creative way. But ...meh...what do i know.

But u appease everyone...making it interesting on both endz of the spectrum, resulting in an interesting vid.

So u own all these cars you will be putting in the final video?

A lot of people have asked about the equipment I used so here's a link to pictures of some of the camera setups: http://www.frameyourart.net/COMP-1.jpg

Note, I tried embedding them but I never seem to be able to get that function to work, I just get a little Icon with a question mark???

Thanks Bluespider. I took a long hiatus from DVXUser, its good to be back and it means a lot that you liked it.

Thanks.

Very very well shot!
it shows you can enjoy driving a Lambo without reving it.
(But I agree with others: motor sound is missing)

I believe you used filmtools grips, like this one:
http://www.filmtools.com/filiuncamofo.html
correct?

I thought it could be used at fast speed, but you wrote it is too shaky after 40mph???

Oh I reved it! You just couldn't hear it...

I used this mount, plus other assorted bits and pieces: http://www.filmtools.com/filmtools-camera-triangulation-kit-w-vacuum-cups.html

This is a very good mount, however, depending on where you mount it the actual body panels of the car flex and that's where you get a lot of the vibration. So it depends on the car your mounting too. The much of the Lamborghini 's body is made out of plastic and flex's a lot. Here's some pictures of the camera mounted on the car: http://www.frameyourart.net/COMP-1.jpg.

Also the lens can make a difference how fast you can go without excessive vibration. For a lot of this I used the 18-50 f/3.5 Canon with IS which is a fairly good all around lens for video but its a bit loose and at higher speeds there was sufficient air pressure on the front of the lens to cause it change focal lengths.

If your considering purchasing this kind of mount I think its about as good as it gets, at least I have not used or seen a better car mount for the money. I'm confident that after this experience I can improve on the speed quite a bit.

Thanks for watching and your feedback.
