Koyaanisqatsi-esque

Hey folks. Haven't posted any work in a looong time, so I thought I'd share.

I've begun shooting a Koyaanisqatsi-like documentary for a senior project my friend is doing, which is a 75 minute philip glass recital with the film projected, playing along to it.

I threw together a few pieces of left-over clips from a couple of shoots recently and left in some that will stick around for the film.

besides the fact that those are some REALLY solid shots, how did you get such good latitude? the skys look way in exposure...

Honestly, I just attempt to find nice compositions where I can use the angle of the sun to my advantage. Of course, I followed the "shoot away from the sun" guideline a little, but basically, I set the scene settings for a very moderate, middle-of the road setting. I used Cine-like gamma, master ped was around 0, detail level around -4 or -5, kept chroma down just a little, I think chroma level was around -1. And the biggest factor was just ND and stopping down the iris. I've noticed that if one sets the exposure to compensate for a bright sky, even though in the viewfinder and lcd the rest might look a little underexposed, it'll still come out nice. You've just got to watch the noise levels.

heh, I don't think I really explained myself, but that's basically all I did. Nothing special. Just use your surroundings to your advantage.

Thanks so much for the replies.
